Carlow University is currently accepting applications for a full-time Associate Major Gifts Officer . This position has multiple responsibilities within the Advancement department. The Associate Major Gifts Officer oversees the donor relations and stewardship program with the goal of building and maintaining strong relationships with donors by appropriately and consistently promoting interaction with and recognition of donors at all levels.
As Associate Major Gifts Officer, identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of smaller foundations, corporations, and alumni. In addition, the position collaborates with gift officers and other staff to sustain positive and mutually-rewarding relations between the University and its donors; partners with gift officers to determine the best strategies for effective stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of donors.
Essential Functions :
- Implement and maintain a consistent donor recognition program through letters, events, permanent recognition (naming opportunities, gift clubs, etc.) and annual recognition initiatives (honor roll, gift clubs, etc.)
- Actively solicit a portfolio of smaller foundations with a minimum goal of raising $200,000 or more annually.
- Responsible for devising and using consistent, accurate, and appropriate information-sharing mechanisms for soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors.
- Proactively supports the stewardship responsibilities of the development staff by assisting them in establishing and coordinating individualized stewardship plans for donors as well as solicitation plans for prospects.
- Monitor the endowed scholarship / awards program in close cooperation with the Finance and Business Offices to ensure appropriate use of endowed and restricted funds and to ensure that communications with the donors are occurring as appropriate.
- Prepare accurately and timely reports on gifts, endowed funds, scholarships and memorial funds including financial status of funds to donors and administrators.
- Develop an understanding of University priorities so that foundations, corporations, and alumni are well targeted.
- Provide background summaries that provide interests, university affiliations, and estimates of financial capacity to guide the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies by development officers.
- Work collaboratively with University Advancement staff to compose letters, compile appropriate invitation lists, create programs and provide program materials for special events, prepare program scripts and participant remarks (as needed) and create and / or obtain donor awards and recognitions (award nominations, such as the Kirr Award)
- Coordinate with all groups to provide relevant information in preparation for donor visits; implement and coordinate donor recognition events in cooperation with major gift officers to ensure consistency;
- Participate in review sessions and in developing major gift strategy.
