The City of Carlsbad currently has an opening available for a part-time(hourly) Library Clerk position in the Circulation Division at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane, assigned specifically to Library Courier and Circulation Page duties. The library courier transports boxes of library materials and mail among the three library locations and city offices. Applicants must have a valid California Driver License and be comfortable driving a city cargo van. They should also be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Part-time positions in the Library & Cultural Arts department are not to exceed 980 hours per fiscal year. Scheduled work hours for the position are generally weekday office hours at the Dove Library and evening hours as needed, for a total number of hours not to exceed 19 hours per week.

For the part-time Library Clerk assigned to courier and circulation duties, a typical way to acquire the skills and abilities would include graduation from high school and one year of general clerical experience. Physical requirements include safely handling up to 50 pounds; for example, loading boxes of books into the courier van and sorting donated books.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand. While performing the duties, employees of this class are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; observe and interpret people and situations; learn and apply new information or skills; and interact with staff and others encountered in the course of work. When performing courier and page duties, employee must be able to safely lift and handle up to 50 pounds as well as push and pull carts weighing up to 60 pounds.

- As a courier, this position will deliver library materials, mail, and other items as needed between city facilities using a city vehicle.
- Assist with sorting and shelving library materials for the Dove Library circulation division.
