Position Details
This is an open recruitment to establish an eligibility list to fill the current vacant positions for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
The eligibility list will also be used to fill any vacancies which may occur within a period of one year, or until the eligibility list is depleted.
Current positions work 204 days per year at a school site; anticipated hours will be 2 - 3 hours per day, five days per week. The recruitment process will consist of a training and experience evaluation and a structured interview.
BASIC FUNCTION :
Under the direction of the Principal, patrol and monitor campus activities to assure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors in non-classroom activities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :
This classification is distinguished from the Campus Safety Assistant in that the scope of responsibility is limited and incumbents are assigned to elementary schools. Elementary Campus Monitors are responsible for monitoring students during designated non-instructional time while Campus Safety Assistants provide safety, security, and enforce and assure student compliance with school and District rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Monitor campus, assuring students are safe, orderly, secure and within supervised areas; monitor lunch areas, walkways, restrooms, parking lots, grounds and adjacent streets and areas.
Monitor student behavior and activities, breaks, lunchtime and before / after school; assure students arrive to class in a timely manner.
Report incidents involving students and the public to appropriate staff, faculty or administrator.
Provide general information, assistance and guidance to students and authorized visitors.
Provide assistance in lunch areas, including wiping lunch tables and stacking lunch trays for recycling as appropriate.
Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; respond to emergency situations as needed; administer basic first aid to students and staff as necessary.
Maintain routine records related to incidents and daily activities.
Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Any combination equivalent to : graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.

The candidates achieving the top three ranks of the appropriate eligibility list will be referred for a final selection interview. The Eligibility List resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no Eligibility List exists (Ed Code 45272).

Pay Increases : New classified employees are typically placed on the first step of the assigned salary range. Step increases occur annually until Step 5 is reached, after which longevity steps are allocated in accordance with years of service.
Benefits : Employees working 4 hours per day or more will be provided an option of Anthem Blue Cross HMO or Kaiser health benefits, as well as Delta Dental and EyeMed Vision benefits; employee contribution amounts are shared with the District and vary depending on number of hours worked per day. (Employees may opt out of medical, dental and vision insurance but may require to provide proof of other health coverage.) The district also pays into a life insurance policy for all employees who work at least 4 hours per day. Additional options for life insurance and disability insurance are available.
Vacation : New employees earn vacation time on a basis of 1 day for each month in paid status, resulting in up to 12 days of vacation time per year, prorated based on months worked per year. Employees with years of longevity may earn up to 25 days of vacation time per year, prorated based on months worked per year.
Holidays : Employees are allocated up to 15 scheduled holidays and 2 floating holidays per year; holidays are prorated based on months worked per year.
Sick and Personal Necessity : Employees earn sick leave on a basis of 1 day for each month in paid status, resulting in up to 12 days of sick time per year. Employees may use up to 7 days of their sick leave balance each year for personal necessity purposes.
Retirement : Retirement : Employees working 4 or more hours per day and those already contributing to CalPERS will be automatically enrolled into CalPERS upon hire. The District's CalPERS formula is 2% at 55 for employees enrolled with CalPERS prior to 12 / 31 / 2012 and 2% at 62 for employees who have already or will enroll into CalPERS as of 01 / 01 / 2013 or afterward. Employees working less than 4 hours per day will be included in an alternative retirement plan based on the use of pretax contributions.
