PARALEGAL
We are seeking a professional and experienced Paralegal to join our team!
For over 166 years, Carlsmith Ball LLP has continued its tradition of providing top-notch legal services to a wide range of local, mainland, and international clients. As a multi-service law firm with offices located on Hawaii Island, Maui, and Oahu, we practice in a variety of areas including Real Estate and Land Use, Corporate and Business Formation, Tax and Estate Planning, and Civil Litigation.
Core Skills and Knowledge:
· Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively to meet deadlines.
· Exceptional proofreading skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in legal documents and correspondence.
· Computer literate - MS Word - Intermediate to Advanced skills; Excel - Basic- Intermediate; Basic level Outlook and Adobe. Willing to learn new applications.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong administrative and clerical skills to provide comprehensive support to attorneys.
· Dependable with strong work ethic.
· Able to work independently and collaboratively - self-starter with ability to multitask.
Preferred but not required: knowledge of CompuLaw, CMS Aderant, NetDocuments, or other document management programs, experience in PowerPoint.
PARALEGAL - CORPORATE/TRANSACTIONAL
Location: One (1) position on Oahu
Responsibilities include:
· Preparing and recording corporate, real property, and Conveyancing documents; preparing applications for licenses and permits; and assisting with pre-closing and closing tasks.
· Researching at and interacting with governmental agencies (federal, state, and local).
· Calendaring and reminding attorneys of events and deadlines.
· Organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files utilizing document management system.
· Performing various accounting and administrative tasks (e.g., entering timesheets, editing prebills, scheduling appointments, etc.)
· Communicating with clients and others by phone and email.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of a paralegal program (or equivalent work experience.)
Experience: Minimum two (2) years paralegal experience in either business transactions, corporate, or tax field.
Preferred but not required: experience submitting document to BOC, DLNR, Liquor Commission, DCCA, Dept. of Taxation, IRS, DPP, Land Court, and/or Dept. of Health.
PARALEGAL - CIVIL LITIGATION:
Location: One (1) position on Oahu
Responsibilities include:
· Assisting attorneys in preparing legal documents such as pleadings, motions, memorandum, etc.
· Managing and performing e-discovery and document productions, coordinating document review with opposing party ensuring document integrity is maintained.
· Performing simple research - legislative, government agency, court records, and legal reference materials online or in person as needed.
· Assisting attorney in preparing for trial and at trial.
· Calendaring and reminding attorneys of events and deadlines.
· Organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files utilizing a document management system.
· Communicating with courts, government agencies, clients and others by phone and email.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum three (3) years paralegal experience in civil litigation. Knowledge of Circuit and Federal Court Rules and Civil Procedure. Experience working with e-discovery software or ability to learn.
Certification: Paralegal degree or certification.
