Essential Job Functions of the Crane and Hoist Technician:

Recognize and address safety risks inherent to specific work environments and tasks, taking proactive measures to eliminate or mitigate dangers in accordance with CIS and Customer Safety standards.

Carry out essential repairs and maintenance tasks on overhead cranes, hoists and drives, crane controls, below the hook devices, and other lifting equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality norms.

Utilize expertise in mechanical gearing, preferred motor repair, and extensive experience in equipment modifications—including VFD retrofits, radio remote installs, motor & gear replacements, electrical retrofits, and hard bar to festoon conversions—for effective problem-solving across diverse mechanical and electrical systems in various industrial settings.

Draw upon extensive experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical devices to perform comprehensive inspections, accurately identifying equipment issues through thorough visual assessments and rigorous testing procedures.

Assist in installing industrial overhead hoists and cranes, ensuring optimal functionality and strict adherence to safety guidelines.

Utilize expertise in electrical control circuits for both single and three-phase power, essential for effective equipment operation.

Provide exceptional customer support by actively listening to feedback, collaborating with clients and internal teams to address repair needs, and aligning expectations for successful outcomes.

Initiate discussions with customers to identify potential risks and opportunities for equipment upgrades, conversion, or the establishment of preventative maintenance contracts with expanded service offerings.

Foster strong relationships with sales teams for ongoing collaboration on repair-versus-replacement discussions, ensuring effective communication for commissionable projects.

Actively seek referrals from existing clients and regularly communicate this information to sales staff and service managers to contribute to business growth.
Qualifications
Qualifications of the Crane and Hoist Technician:

A High School diploma is necessary; however, preference will be given to candidates with an associate degree or higher in electronics, industrial maintenance, or a related field, or relevant work experience.

Must have the capability and confidence to work at elevated heights.

Preferred, but not mandatory, are skills in machining and non-structural welding.

Ability to adapt and thrive in varied environments and with different individuals daily.
Physical Requirements of the Crane and Hoist Technician:

Proficiency in operating and maneuvering industrial cranes and hoists safely and effectively.

Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy objects, equipment, and components.

Skill in handling tools, equipment, and small components with precision and accuracy.

Comfort and agility in climbing ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms to access crane and hoist components for maintenance and repair.

Comfort and capability in working at heights, including elevated platforms and structures, while adhering to safety protocols and regulations.

Endurance to work for extended periods, sometimes in physically demanding environments, including outdoor settings and varying weather conditions.

Ability to perform intricate tasks requiring precise movements and adjustments, such as aligning and calibrating crane and hoist components.

Awareness of spatial dimensions and distances for safe operation and maneuvering of equipment within confined spaces.

Basic mechanical understanding and problem-solving skills to diagnose and troubleshoot issues with crane and hoist systems effectively.

Clear verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members, supervisors, and clients, conveying information about maintenance tasks, safety procedures, and equipment status effectively.
