The CPM is also responsible for carrying out all components of standard work in assigned area, maintaining production cosmetic technician efficiency levels to meet guidelines, maintaining reconditioning costs for all cosmetic repairs, and supervising the entire cosmetic inspection and repair process for both CarMax and customer vehicles.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help Associates consistently achieve line output targets and quality standards by following and executing standardized work and Flow System principles
- Achieves daily and weekly production targets in cosmetic and inspection work zones
- Controls the flow of vehicles through the reconditioning process by proper distribution of First Time Through (FTT) vehicles and Rework vehicles
- Supports Inspection approval decisions and manages vehicle priority through the use of the ERO system
- Oversee the accessibility, maintenance and repair of shop tools, supplies and equipment, including personal protection equipment for all Senior Reconditioning and Reconditioning Associates and report issues
- Communicate the work requirements and needs to external customers, Senior Reconditioning and Reconditioning Associates and Associates from other departments
- Partners with other functional areas and managers as needed to collaborate on questions regarding vehicle quality and potential kicks
- Ensures that all positions in the cosmetic and inspection areas are properly staffed at all times
- Ensures positive associate engagement through consistent use of the Associate Care and Communication (AC&C) tools, such as round tables, one-on-ones, and Compass Engagement Meetings
- Manages associate at the individual level by using Managing to the Individual (MTI) and through the consistent use of the performance management tools to include performing consistent feedback, observations, file reviews, IDPS, APRs, and performance management
- Conduct and document competency based formal and informal observations to maintain work execution and develop associates
- Drives team and store performance by maintaining comeback standards and Backflow/Transfer goals at or below company targets
- Drives team and store performance in maintaining all department metric goals
- Use the Training Matrix to plan and implement the development of Associates
- Maintain a harmonious work environment by identifying and intervening in conflict
- Engage team in problem-solving to identify root causes and implement action plans toward a solution
- Ensure workplace cleanliness and organization in accordance with CarMax 5S Methodology standards
- Participates and ensure compliance of all CarMax training and process initiatives
- Performs all Asset Protection and EH&S responsibilities expected in the role
Qualifications:
Work requires ability to:
- Pass the Management Development Program (MDP)
- Read, interpret and transcribe data in order to maintain accurate records
- Complete CarMax provided training in all areas of the production process, including Kronos Training
- Multi-task in a high energy, fast-paced work environment
- Must possess a valid driver's license that meets the CarMax Driver Safety Points Evaluation System criteria, as explained in the CarMax Driver Safety Policy
- Speak, listen, and write effectively in dealing with customers and associates across departments
- 1 Year of experience as a Manager or Cosmetic Technician preferred
- Basic computer skills
- Exhibit willingness to work as part of a team
- Perform Associate development tasks, including coaching and training initiatives
- Understand and recognize line impact to Key Performance Measures (KPM's)
Working Conditions:
- May require walking or standing for an extended period of time
- Combination of both indoor and outdoor environment, including working at times in noisy and/or inclement weather conditions
- Occasional travel for meetings, training, and special assignments
- Wearing CarMax clothing (acquired through company) at all times while working in the store
- Following all CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA standards including the use of Personal Protective Equipment, and proper waste disposal in required areas
- Adheres to all CarMax Policies, including but not limited to, Asset Protection, EH&S, and Standards of Professional Appearance
