POSITION TITLE: Pool Manager - Summer
DIVISION: Recreation & Facilities
REPORTS TO: Recreation Services Assistant Manager
FLSA STATUS: Part-Time; Non-Exempt; Seasonal
PAY RANGE: Starting at $17.00 per hour
Purpose of Position:
This seasonal position is responsible for managing The Waterpark and aquatic facilities of Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation, including supervising aquatic staff, coordinating with all facility staff, responding and managing risk management procedures, implementing staff training, and demonstrating exemplary customer service at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Aquatics Operations & Safety
- Monitors general operations of the aquatic facility during scheduled shift as the part time supervisor on duty.
- Acts as the main point of contact for customer complaints in regards to The Waterpark facilities.
- Supervises pool and surrounding areas to ensure guest safety.
- Maintains surveillance of guests in the facility; acts immediately, appropriately and calmly to secure safety of guests in the event of emergency.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Respond to First Aid emergencies anywhere on MCC property. Take lead once on scene.
- Leads staff during Code ADAM emergencies in The Waterpark.
- Assists in implementing Emergency Action Plan.
- Provides information to facility users, program participants and the general public.
- Secures all facilities upon closing and other periods where there will be no supervision by lifeguards.
- Opens and closes facility for daily use and for special events.
Staff Supervision
- Assists in hiring and training aquatic staff.
- Assists Aquatic management with in-service training. Leads training sessions.
- Develops and maintains part time staff schedules.
- Develops and maintains on the job training.
- Assists with the supervision of aquatic staff to achieve department goals; provides information to aquatic staff.
- Attends all MCC Aquatic trainings including (but not limited to): in-service trainings and organizational meetings.
- Assigns positions and maintains flow of lifeguard rotation.
Reporting
- Completes all required reports and paperwork in a required timeframe.
- Ensures that all equipment malfunctions and hazardous conditions are reported immediately.
- Monitors and records water quality readings including pH and chlorine levels.
Miscellaneous
- Must work a minimum of 20 hours a week during waterpark season.
- Must have availability to work pre and post waterpark season.
- Completes other assignments as indicated by Recreation Services Manager or his/her designee.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Strong ability to think critically and problem solve personnel and facility issues in a proactive manner.
- Communicate professionally with guests, staff and management in an effort to resolve any issues.
- Knowledge of aquatic programs, procedures, policies and general information to be communicated to guests.
- Ability to see, talk and hear to fulfill job duties.
- Ability to swim, stand, walk, kneel, bend over, use hands & feet, climb and balance.
- Specific vision abilities required are close vision, distance vision, depth perception and focusing ability.
- Specific hearing abilities required to identify various sounds such as cries for help, splashing and whistles.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and be able to handle heavier loads in an emergency.
- Ability to stay in a level of physical conditioning sufficient enough to complete monthly in-service skills and training goals as defined by management.
- Work in outdoor swimming pool environment, including cold, rain, extreme heat and sun and within moderate to loud sounds.
- Maintain mental alertness and focus for periods exceeding one hour.
- Effectively enforce applicable safety and health regulations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, participants, instructors and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral instructions
Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Possess current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, including First Aid, CPR/AED, Emergency Oxygen
- Two years lifeguard experience or experience sufficient to perform job duties
- Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification highly preferred
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred.
Must Complete Prior to Starting with Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation
- Must pass a background check that encompasses national, state and local searches.
