CSA Swim Instructor

JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Swim Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Aquatics

REPORTS TO: CSA Directors

FLSA: Part-time, non-exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY:

• Provide competent, safe instruction using recognized lead-up skills as established by our profession and national aquatic agencies. Plan and effectively organize class time for maximum practice. This is accomplished through weekly lesson plans. Teach with encouragement and positive reinforcement. Provide for consistency in instruction by working each assigned period.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Individuals in this job will be subject to loud, humid, wet facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to instruct swimming lessons
• Knowledge of swimming strokes and teaching levels
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision
• Available to work weekends and weekdays
• Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, noodles, etc.
• Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm.
• Ability to positively interact with the general public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• The swim instructor is responsible for instructing all swim lesson participants
• This position is also responsible for the safety of the participant in their own class
• Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.
• Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons
• Submits evaluations on time
• Attends mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled
• Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
• Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with patrons and other staff.
• Work scheduled shifts.
• Other duties may be assigned to this position at the discretion of the Directors or Swim Coaches.
