The Associate Editor is a key member of the Editorial department, responsible for executing and maintaining Carnegie Hall’s editorial style guide. Reporting to the Editorial Director, this role is part of a team of five dedicated to delivering thoughtfully edited content that meets the high standards associated with Carnegie Hall.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the project management and editing of print and digital materials across various initiatives within the Editorial department, including collateral related to the Weill Music Institute’s education and Social Impact Programs, Development campaigns, Special Events, and concert-specific Marketing efforts, as needed.
  • Oversee the production and editorial quality of assigned PLAYBILL programs for Carnegie Hall performances in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, Zankel Hall, and / or Weill Recital Hall, including any corresponding librettos. The Associate Editor will also update and manage content in the website’s content management system for assigned programs.
  • Edit and review all materials related to the Carnegie Hall Citywide series.
  • Actively contribute to the Editorial department’s initiatives and collaborate with the broader Marketing department.
  • Ensure all projects are completed with high quality and on schedule.
  • Provide support for additional projects as needed, based on the overall workload of the department, at the discretion of the Editorial Director and / or Director of Creative Services.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of proven experience in copyediting and proofreading.
  • Strong project management skills, with a confident approach to problem-solving and efficient task execution.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • A deep knowledge of and passion for classical music, as well as other musical genres.
  • Marketing insight with an understanding of diverse audience needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with online content management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with culturally responsive interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively across various departments, with a focus on building relationships and engaging with leadership.
  • Exceptional time management skills, able to handle high-pressure environments with competing deadlines and stakeholder demands.
  • Highly self-motivated, decisive, and able to manage both short-term and long-term projects.
  • A passion for and commitment to Carnegie Hall’s mission and values.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience in editing and writing.
  • Availability for some evening and weekend coverage.
