TEMPORARY, FULL-TIME: July 11, 2025, through August 8, 2025 (inclusive)
Carnegie Hall seeks a seasonal Orchestra Manager for NYO2 for summer 2025 rehearsal, tour, and performance activities. NYO2, one of Carnegie Hall’s three national youth ensembles, is a tuition-free instrumental training program for high school aged musicians, chosen via a highly selective audition process. The orchestra rehearses initially at Purchase College, SUNY, with a faculty of top professional players, before a performance at Carnegie Hall and a week-long residency with additional concerts in the UK.
Key responsibilities include:
Facilitating all orchestra rehearsal activities and concerts in collaboration with guest artists, conducting staff, music librarians, production/stage managers, and additional venue staff.
Preparing rosters, updating the daily schedule with rehearsal orders, and managing orchestra personnel needs as they arise.
Participating in load-in and stage set up at concert/tour venues.
Alongside NYO-USA's Orchestra Manager, supervising and supporting the work of a student Apprentice Orchestra Manager for NYO-USA.
Assisting in the planning and implementation of additional orchestral activities (reading sessions, side-by-sides or other peer-exchanges, as may be applicable.)
Qualifications:
Prior orchestral/large ensemble management experience is required
Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, including major conductors and soloists.
A strong commitment to creating a positive educational environment, to expanding opportunities for young musicians from underrepresented communities, and to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
The ability to work evenings and weekends during the program period and to travel with the orchestra as needed. (Eligibility to travel and work in the US is required.)
An active interest in classical music is strongly preferred.
Compensation: Competitive weekly stipend, plus room and board, including all travel expenses.
