Job Summary: Seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to provide outstanding customer service at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-Allegheny. This customer service-focused role will ensure high quality user experiences throughout the Library, in adherence to the CLP Philosophy of Service.

- High School Diploma or GED required;
- The physical ability to bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time, frequently climb stairs, push heavy book trucks, and lift heavy loads (25 pounds).
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities & Experience:
- Superior internal and external customer service commitment and skills required;
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with public, supervisors, co-workers, and system wide;
- The desire and ability to work with a diverse public and staff within diverse communities;
- Familiarity with online catalog, MS Windows and MS Office, electronic databases, Internet searching, and experience with library circulation software preferred;
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities a plus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Engaging with library users to ensure their needs are supported and addressed through relevant services;
- Greeting customers and directing them to the appropriate staff members and resources to meet their information needs;
- Overseeing the opening and closing process of the library as needed, resolving customer and security issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of the library;
- Performing circulation functions of the Library to ensure high quality user-focused service;
- Preparing and submitting required reports as needed;
- Providing basic computer instruction and assistance to public PC users;
- Registering customers for library cards, collecting fines and fees, processing customer holds and requests;
- Providing basic reference and readers’ advisory service to all age levels in person and over the phone;
- Creating content for CLP’s various websites, blogs, and social media accounts;
- Handling monetary transactions, including cash payments and credit transactions;
- Resolving customer concerns with the goal of customer satisfaction;
- Working in a busy, urban library and meeting the needs of a diverse range of customers, including children and the elderly;
- Assisting with distribution of library service, clerical, and policy changes;
- Supporting new staff in achieving successful customer service experiences.
Clearance Requirements:
- PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment. .
