Job Summary: Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Office of External & Government Relations (EGR) manages all government relations, fundraising, advocacy and development activities that sustain and enhance the organization’s mission. Under the supervision of the Manager of Individual Giving and Donor Relations, the Development Associate provides fundraising, outreach, donor relations, and administrative support to help the Library maximize revenues and reach institutional goals.
Location: CLP-East Liberty

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week; days, evenings and weekends as needed.
Compensation: $20.70/hour

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Fundraising Activities
  • Work closely with directors and managers to perform a wide range of fundraising activities for specific audiences;
  • Assist with contacting prospective funders in order to generate contributions, sponsorships and grants;
  • Use a variety of tools to research prospects, including individuals, foundations, corporations and governmental programs as potential sources for private funds for CLP initiatives;
  • Draft, edit and prepare a variety of written documents, including pre-meeting summaries, donor correspondence, grant proposals, reports, fundraising appeals and other supporting documents;
  • Create digital content (emails, social media, power points, webpages, etc.) to support fundraising activities;
  • Provide support for ongoing fundraising campaigns including, but not limited to, annual giving, endowment, capital projects and special events;
  • Act as a representative of the Library and E&GR at meetings and events;
Donor Relations Duties
  • Perform activities related to cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors;
  • Develop and manage invitation and cultivation lists; gather research on attendees;
  • Coordinate event arrangements and assist with pre- and post-event duties;
  • Prepare stewardship and research reports;
  • Attend events and interact with attendees;
  • Research and write acknowledgements, stewardship reports and promotional copy;
  • Record donor interactions and track strategies, deadlines and action reminders in Raiser’s Edge (RE) to ensure appropriate follow up occurs;
  • Respond to routine inquiries and requests for information;
Administrative Duties
  • Input confidential donor data into Raiser’s Edge donor database;
  • Accurately process gifts and produce acknowledgment letters;
  • Maintain prospect information and files for donors;
  • Produce general correspondence, acknowledgement letters, and other documents;
  • Prepare financial deposits and deposit them at the bank;
  • Provide technical support for integrated fundraising campaigns using Blackbaud products;
  • Assist with mailings and notifications for events and solicitations
  • General office duties including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment and answering multiple phone lines.
Competencies & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Minimum of 3 years related development/fundraising experience, or demonstrated equivalent education and work experience, preferably in a non-profit work environment;
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including superior writing, editing and grammar skills;
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365;
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing polished collateral materials;
  • Proficiency with social media outreach and digital marketing preferred;
  • Familiarity with database entry, fund accounting and computer technology;
  • Previous experience or familiarity with fundraising databases;
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology applications and platforms;
  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge of CLP’s policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrated skills in providing outstanding customer service to internal and external audiences;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexible enough to shift priorities as needed;
  • Possesses a passion for literacy and learning
  • PA Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and Credit Check required upon offer of employment.
