Job Summary: Under the direction of the Archivist, the Librarian-Digital Collections will support policy development; processing, preserving, discovery and access to CLP’s digital initiatives through metadata creation, analysis, enrichment, and maintenance according to local and national cataloging and metadata standards and ensure that digitized and born-digital objects can be curated and maintained for short- and long-term access. The individual will be a liaison across departments and with external collaborators outside CLP to manage selected digital repositories and digital preservation platforms, ensure a high degree of innovation and functionality, and ensure that digital collections and objects are available for research use in a variety of formats. The position will participate in, or take on, projects to enhance intellectual access to, and discoverability of, digital and physical resources. The individual will contribute to discussions about copyright and intellectual property rights for cultural heritage materials. The position participates in library-wide services as needed.
The Digital Collections Librarian will oversee services in our Recollection Studio including supporting patrons in DIY digitization and related activities. Additional public service work may be assigned to support day-to-day library operations.
Location: CLP-Main, Pittsburgh, PA.
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week; days, evenings and weekends required.
Compensation: $22.95 per hour

The work of the Librarian-Digital Collections will include:
- Provide access to, and patron support in, the Recollection Studio, the library’s DIY digitization lab. Maintain software and equipment in best possible working condition.
- Assist the Archivist in developing, documenting, and implementing digitization policies and helping establish new procedures where needed;
- Assist the Archivist in developing, documenting, and implementing procedures for accessioning, arranging, describing, and providing access to digitized and born-digital materials according to professional standards;
- With the Archivist, update and implement descriptive policies with an emphasis on broadening inclusivity and improving discoverability and access to digital and physical collections;
- Create, review, and edit descriptive metadata for physical digital collections and research assets;
- Ensure that metadata can be shared with aggregators, such as POWER Library and Historic Pittsburgh;
- Engage with the Archivist in the accessioning and preservation of born-digital materials for Archives & Special Collections;
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop metadata supporting the discovery and management of digital content;
- Direct the work of staff, interns, and/or contractors developing metadata
- Participate in project planning for digital projects and initiatives, including grant work;
- Contribute to discussions about copyright and intellectual property rights for cultural heritage materials.
- Provide reference consultation to diverse user population through virtual and in-person service;
- Contribute to digital collections-oriented outreach and programming; and
- Remain current with metadata, copyright, intellectual property, digital preservation, and digital library development standards and trends.
Required Qualifications:
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited school is required;
- Three or more years of progressive experience and increasing responsibility in a service-oriented environment, including demonstrated leadership;
- Previous library experience desired, preferably in a diverse urban environment;
- Energetic and dynamic, highly organized, self-motivated, and possess strong leadership skills;
- Ability to provide high quality customer service, in person, over the phone, and virtually;
- Ability to work as part of a team, meet deadlines, manage assignments and responsibilities effectively in a busy urban library;
- One-year related experience with acquisition workflows or digital forensics;
- One-year related experience with MARC, Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Dublin Core, Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), or other relevant metadata and archival descriptive standards;
- Demonstrated knowledge of strategies for managing born-digital archival material and of digital preservation standards;
- Experience with one or more platforms for the discovery, management, and/or preservation of digital collections;
- Demonstrated aptitude for and interest in learning innovative technologies and skills;
- The ability to perform physical activities associated with the archival environment such as lift boxes of archival materials when retrieving them for digitization or re-shelving them when complete, etc.;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct knowledge of ArchivesSpace and Islandora;
- Experience creating metadata for digital objects;
- Experience with web archiving activities and tools; and
- Solid understanding of copyright and intellectual property rights for cultural heritage materials.
