Location: CLP- Allegheny & CLP-Downtown, Pittsburgh, PA.
Schedule: Saturdays-9:00-5:50 at CLP-Downtown, Sundays-9:00-5:30 at CLP Allegheny, Mondays-9:00-5:30pm at CLP-Downtown
Work Hours: 25 hours per week; days, evenings and weekends required.

Hiring Supervisor: Brian Scullion, Manager – Safety & Security
- Work as a team player with other security personnel and library service staff to create a safe and secure environment;
- Provide quality customer service and maintain a professional appearance at all times;
- Patrol assigned areas on foot and take position at security stations to ensure staff, patron, building and content security. Examine doors, windows, etc. to ensure security; use Library keys to open and close buildings; turn on and off building alarms;
- Inform and warn violators of Library rule infractions, such as unacceptable behavior or attempts to steal items, in a firm, courteous and calm manner;
- Monitor security cameras at all locations and take appropriate action on incidents or potential incidents;
- Watch for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; respond quickly to various fire and security alarms, contact emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required;
- In the event of an emergency, act quickly and appropriately to protect people and secure assets;
- Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and security code violators; approach suspicious persons and notify police as appropriate; may confront and detain violators, as required, until police arrive;
- Strictly follow security procedures/controls for Library issued keys and security codes;
- Inspect all safety and fire equipment regularly to ensure they are in working order;
- Prepare reports of daily activities, irregularities and incidents in a timely manner;
- Perform opening and closing tasks; preparing the building in the morning for opening, and ensuring a safe closing at the end of the day. This includes the ability to secure all doors and exit areas, perform rounds through the building, walk through stairwells to clear them, inspect all stack areas, walk through all departments, stairwells, rest rooms, etc. at the end of the day;
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and communicate instructions to others, both orally and in writing;
- Must have the ability to handle emergency situations in a large facility, including building evacuations, and assisting staff, customers, vendors in emergency situations. Ability to clear all floors and areas of patrons and staff in the event of an emergency;
- Must demonstrate common sense judgment and physical ability to handle and respond to emergency and/or threatening situations;
- Must have the ability to understand and achieve a good working knowledge of security principles, practices, and techniques;
- Successful completion of Library security officer training;
- Good observation skills and ability to detect unusual occurrences or behaviors;
- Ability to provide CPR/AED/First Aid/NARCAN when necessary.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- One year of related experience
- Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
- Basic computer skills – ability to use Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Must have the physical ability to perform stand, walk and climb stairs for long periods of time; and to bend, stoop, climb, crouch, kneel, reach and other such activity as needed.
- At times, the physical effort could also require running and lifting up to 50 pounds and also the ability push and/or pull up to100lbs.
- Some locations require continual movement through all areas during the library’s hours of operation; patrolling function includes walking through the stacks, monitoring activity on all floors, all public areas, rest rooms, and the front main entrance.
