As one of the oldest forms of applied science and engineering, Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Metallurgical Engineering was founded in 1906 and named after its emphasis on the study of metals. Since then, our field has broadened to include all classes of materials from ceramics and polymers to semiconductors and biological materials. Whereas early eras of civilization were widely identified by human’s ability to work with new material (Stone Age, Bronze Age), today our abilities and projects span a variety of materials and combine everything from physics and chemistry to civil and electrical engineering.
MSE is seeking a Pre-Doc Research Specialist to join the team! Under the general direction of faculty or a senior researcher, this role assists in developing, designing, and conducting research projects in accordance with established plans. In addition, you will contribute to the formulation of research methods and provides recommendations for solutions and alternatives. Also, this position independently manages data collection, published works, database design, and result analysis.
Core Responsibilities :
- Researches, identifies, and collects large-scale data sets or published works for research projects. Organizes data and accurately replicates identified research.
- Develops models to guide analysis and data manipulation. May use statistical packages or mathematical concepts to evaluate results.
- Documents results. May present results to Research team or other partners.
- May recommend additional research projects based on findings.
- Works closely and collaboratively with faculty at CMU and other universities to write academic papers, present findings, or other assigned projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
