We’re looking for an amazing Facilities Maintenance Technician & Caretaker professional to fill this role, which is based at our Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge in Trapper Creek, Alaska. You will assist in maintaining the overall workings of our hotel and employee housing, ensuring the facilities are clean and in good operating condition. You will provide reliability, dependability and a positive attitude in a diverse environment as you support multiple departments, ensuring the safest and most enjoyable experience for our guests and team members alike.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance on building systems, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and control systems and related components; tests system competency and component devices and evaluates performance.
  • Repairs and maintains a variety of facilities systems, components and structures; repairs building plumbing, low-voltage, and line voltage electric systems, door hardware, fire and life safety protection equipment/systems, sprinkler systems, sensors and related hardware and software; constructs and maintains indoor/outdoor facilities, fans, lights and related; conducts structural inspections for safety.
  • Maintains induction and air handling units; cleans and inspects all equipment, completes filter changes, lubricates, maintains and services mechanical and refrigeration and/or cooling systems.
  • Coordinates maintenance of spa water sanitation and related spa environment equipment.
  • Performs service and preventative maintenance on small motorized equipment engines and carts; troubleshoots equipment problems and identifies when appropriate for external service provider to make repairs or perform warranty work.
  • Identifies repair and maintenance projects requiring the assistance of contractors or vendors; participates in documenting challenges that require contractor repairs; monitors work of vendors or contractors.
  • Assists management to determine training needs for seasonal work team and assists in the training of less-skilled staff in facilities maintenance trades.
  • Responsible for paper and electronic recordkeeping related to preventative and corrective maintenance and repair, tracks and closes assigned work orders; may monitor work orders assigned to others and assist them in managing work orders.
  • Responds to emergencies to ensure that all facilities are protected and remain operational. Assists with tasks required in preparing to open and close lodges for winter operations, including winterization and snow and ice removal, systems and equipment checks and start-up operations as assigned.
  • Knows and understands all safety procedures. Trains less-skilled staff on safety procedures related to lodge operations.
  • Operates carts and service vehicles; responsible for safe operation and reporting any observed maintenance needs or accidents.
  • Maintains appropriate records and reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One year of facilities maintenance, construction, or repair experience in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • Must be able to spend a minimum three (3) nights on the property per workweek.
  • You must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. You will become part of our randomized drug pool.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check, that will include a credit check.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license for operation of a motor vehicle with a clean driving record. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) of the last three years will be requested.
  • Maintains a broad working knowledge of materials, systems and code requirements related to maintenance of facilities. You will need the knowledge of power and hand tools used in facilities maintenance; recordkeeping techniques and regulations, including use of automated record systems; OSHA workplace health and safety standards and procedures; use of computers to use automated recordkeeping tools, automated system controls, and email; customer service practices.
  • Must be comfortable to work in both the indoors and outdoors that could have exposure to various weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise and temperature extremes.
  • Must be able to frequently bend, stand, kneel, climb ladders, reach below and above shoulders, and crawl.
  • Wrist, hand and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment and materials.
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs./23 kg and occasionally move up to 100 lbs., work around equipment safely, and stand/walk for long periods of time.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs to maintain logs, inventories and purchasing records; respond to service requests and emails; monitor and manage work orders.
  • Dedicated to delivering excellent customer service to all guests, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Forklift driver certification required within six months of employment.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States. Holland America Line/Princess is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and written, with customers, employees and management.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, maintain an attention to accuracy and detail, while working in a team or group environment.
  • Ability to obtain Fireman’s Class Stationary Boiler’s License (within 90 days of hire) and Spa Certification (within 120 days of hire).
  • Ability to lift or move up to 60 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
  • Ability to use and train others on a variety of tools and power equipment; plan and coordinate work; track and plan preventative maintenance work; maintain records and reports in computerized and written formats, compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to effectively use email and automated calendaring systems; make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately; learn and apply health and safety regulations; work independently with minimal supervision; understand and follow oral and written directions; optimize efficiencies provided by automated maintenance management and service request tools; work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
