What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Ledger Manager position at Carnival Cruise Line?
This position assists in the development and execution of future financial technology strategic initiatives related to Financial Reporting and Accounting systems. This individual plays a key role in our efforts to provide decision support in selecting, optimizing, prioritizing, and executing projects, managing the deployment of systems and services, developing tools, as well as evaluating/monitoring operational and financial benefits within the CCL Finance organization. The Manager role oversees resources leading and/or supporting projects (system maintenance and enhancements) related to Finance functions, full suite of Oracle products, supporting both strategic and tactical initiatives and working alongside the Financial Technology team to develop key strategic initiatives based on interpretation of analyses and detailed review of current processes. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring the success of project delivery in terms of functionality and quality. The role may work in conjunction with other teams within CCL Finance, Corporate Financial systems, Information Technology, Business Intelligence, Risk Management, etc. to ensure cohesiveness with corporate goals and initiatives. This individual proactively seeks opportunities to partner with business units on important strategic initiatives and works with IT, Decision Support, business users and any other departments as needed to support the development and implementation of new business practices. This position is also responsible for appropriate resource management, staff performance and growth.
Essential Functions:
- Plans, allocates and manage staff resources that outline and support department procedures and set standards. Oversees the training and development of direct reports and provides feedback during probation period by submitting required department evaluation form. Consistently develops staff by preparing employees’ performance evaluations for direct reports and reviewing all employees’ performance evaluations. Planning, organizing, leading and monitoring team members through multiple projects.
- Oversee full suite of Oracle products. Review, monitor, facilitate and organize releases impacting applications supporting all financial activity through the implementation of projects.
- Identify best, efficient, and cost beneficial solutions when business processes are being implemented and require input or output from critical financial systems. Work closely with the Finance team for departmental improvements and efficiency to formulate executive level analyses, reports, and presentations. Partner with the finance organization to evaluate requirements for BPM (Business Process Model) and Reporting and ensure the system is fully leveraged to achieve optimal results
- Develop and present business cases for potential projects. Approve processes. Monitor major project schedules as well as take ownership of budgeting/forecasting project costs. Develop new tools, reports, and analyses, independently and collaboratively, in support to all Finance business partners
- Reviews all provided System Development Methodology documentation prior for sign-off. Submit/prioritize defects and content management cases that impact financial reporting and accounting. Support Financial Analysis team in implementation and enhancement of high-impact business reporting (i.e. scorecards)
- Collaborate with the enterprise to understand the impact to the business and uses big picture view to calibrate priorities across projects. Assist in championing new ideas . Understands the company vision and strategy and provides guidance to direct reports in supporting solutions that are aligned with the organizations goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, IT, Accounting, Finance, or related field of study; or any combination of relevant background, skills and experience. MBA preferred.
- PMP preferred
- 5 years of experience with full product lifecycle with understanding of development lifecycle and various methodologies that support that lifecycle in Finance Reporting and Accounting. Experience leading, motivating, and managing various project teams, while holding team accountable for performance. Experience influencing and gaining buy-in from executives, sponsors, team members, stakeholders, and peers.
- General knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components, SharePoint sites, intranets, and networks. Strong understanding of financial system, financial data analysis tools , full suite of Oracle ebs.
- Project management experience, including testing of enterprise size applications. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, planning and problem-solving skills. Able to multi-task, work independently and balance requests at peak workloads (or change gears quickly for important requests) from various departments and upper management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to manage time and engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously at a fast pace. Ability to problem solve and excellent communication skills. Experience managing business/financial planning and analysis processes. Working knowledge in accounting principles and issues.
Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout CCL facilities.
Travel: No or very little travel likely
Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. For example, sometimes it may be required to deploy a project during vessel’s repairs (Dry-Docks) or during vessels start-ups. This may change ship’s working environment. Also, sometimes lacks climate control for hours at a time, elevator may be offline for hours at a time. Sailing on Crew Cabins, etc.
This position is classified as “remote.” As a remote role, it allows employees to work full-time from their home. It may also require regular travel to Carnival headquarters in Miami, FL for in-office collaboration. Sourcing of candidates is primarily done in Carnival’s remote hubs of Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas. If the search is extended past those areas, candidates must be located in one of the following U.S. states: FL, GA, TX and NC
