Description:

The General Manager (GM) based out of Columbia, SC is a strategic leader responsible for the overall performance and profitability of the commercial HVAC business. This individual will oversee operations, sales, customer service, and team management, ensuring the company meets its goals in revenue growth, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The GM will report directly to the President and play a key role in shaping the company’s strategic direction.

1. Leadership and Management:

  • Provide vision, direction, and leadership to all departments, including service, maintenance, installation (working with the VP/GM of Construction), and sales.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead by example, setting high standards for integrity, performance, and professionalism.

2. Operational Oversight:

  • Ensure efficient day-to-day operations, focusing on quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement policies, processes, and procedures to optimize productivity and efficiency.
  • Oversee inventory management, equipment maintenance, and resource allocation.

3. Financial Performance:

  • Develop and manage budgets to ensure profitability and financial health.
  • Monitor financial metrics, including revenue, expenses, and margins, and adjust strategies as necessary.
  • Analyze business performance data and create action plans to meet financial targets.

4. Sales and Business Development:

  • Drive sales strategies to acquire new customers and expand market share.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Work closely with the sales team to develop competitive pricing models and proposals.

5. Customer Satisfaction:

  • Champion excellent customer service across all departments.
  • Address customer concerns promptly, ensuring high satisfaction and retention rates.
  • Monitor and improve service delivery standards to exceed customer expectations.

6. Team Development:

  • Recruit, train, and retain top talent across the organization.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and career development opportunities.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive work environment.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
  • 8 years of experience in the HVAC industry, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, services, and industry regulations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
  • Strong on negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic business plans.
  • Proficient in CRM and ERP systems, with a focus on operational and sales analytics.

Work Environment:

  • Office and field environment; travel to client sites and job locations as needed.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, during peak business periods.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service and sales skills
  • Exhibit an in-depth knowledge and understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Has the ability to read, interpret, utilize and train on manuals, schematics and control circuits related to HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Technical aptitude with knowledge of local codes and an ability to use resources at hand to find solutions
  • Excellent leadership skills to enhance team productivity and standards of work produced
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and strong conflict management skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments
  • Good computer skills: knowledge of and proficiency in common office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and general software navigation
  • Possess a strong personal desire for improvement; and the desire to motivate HVAC technicians to be better tomorrow than they are today
  • Have a clean, neat and professional appearance; a top performer who can instill pride of workmanship in himself and in others
