Purpose:

The Cook Supervisor in a food manufacturing facility is a hands-on working supervisor responsible for leading the cooking process while actively participating in daily production tasks. This role combines leadership with direct involvement in food preparation, ensuring high-quality standards, food safety, and timely completion of production schedules. The Cook Supervisor will manage a team, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and play an integral part in driving efficiency on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Lead, train, and supervise a team of cooks and kitchen staff while working alongside them during production shifts.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively to meet production goals.
  • Act as a mentor, providing ongoing coaching and development for the team.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, ensuring smooth communication and task execution.

Hands-On Cooking and Production:

  • Actively participate in the cooking process, preparing large-scale batches of food alongside the team.
  • Ensure consistent execution of standardized recipes, monitoring cooking times, ingredient quality, and production accuracy.
  • Operate and troubleshoot commercial cooking equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Ensure proper portioning, packaging, and storage of finished food products.

Food Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety standards (HACCP, FDA, USDA) in all cooking and handling procedures.
  • Actively participate in daily sanitation tasks, ensuring cleanliness and compliance with hygiene protocols.
  • Supervise the safe handling, storage, and preparation of raw ingredients and finished products.
  • Lead by example, ensuring all team members follow safety protocols.

Quality Control:

  • Personally conduct taste tests and inspections to ensure consistency in flavor, texture, and product appearance.
  • Take immediate corrective actions if quality issues arise during the production process.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure compliance with product specifications and industry standards.

Inventory and Supply Management:

  • Actively manage the flow of raw ingredients and supplies, ensuring efficient use of resources during production.
  • Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely ordering and stock control.
  • Implement strategies to reduce waste and optimize ingredient usage.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of production output, ingredient usage, and cooking times.
  • Submit daily production reports, highlighting challenges and proposing improvements.
  • Attend and contribute to production planning meetings.

Process Improvement:

  • Suggest and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product consistency.
  • Actively engage in problem-solving on the production floor to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen or food manufacturing environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Hands-on cooking experience in a large-scale production setting is essential.

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of food safety standards and regulations (e.g., HACCP, FDA, USDA).
  • Experience with large-scale batch cooking, portioning, and commercial kitchen equipment.

Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead by example, working alongside staff while managing daily operations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on maintaining product quality and efficiency.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift up to [X lbs] and work in varying temperatures (hot kitchens, cold storage).

Work Environment:

  • This role operates in a fast-paced, high-volume food manufacturing environment.
  • The Cook Supervisor will work with industrial kitchen equipment, leading the production process, and must adhere to strict safety and sanitation protocols.
