Carolina Day School is searching for a Facilities and Grounds Assistant. The position is the full-time, twelve-month role and is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the grounds and buildings of Carolina Day School. The Facilities and Grounds Assistant is responsible for maintaining clean, functional, and visually appealing buildings and grounds at Carolina Day School. This position reports directly to the Facilities Manager and works closely with the faculty, staff, and administration of the Lower, Middle, Upper, and Key School, including athletics.
Essential duties include assisting with building and equipment repairs and replacement, inspecting assigned buildings daily to see if the heating or cooling is comfortable in all areas, whether exterior and interior door devices and locks work properly and to determine items to be repaired or replaced, removing or repairing any items causing any obstructions or hazards to anyone from floor to ceilings, inspecting bathroom stalls and fixtures in assigned buildings on a daily basis, performing routine preventive maintenance including, but not limited to electrical, plumbing, lighting, touch-up painting and carpentry as necessary. May assist with the maintenance and repair of campus landscapes and grounds. Position also performs light janitorial duties, including, but not limited to, trash removal, and classroom and fleet upkeep.
Education/Experience
Requires a high school diploma and six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses/Certifications
Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license. Candidates with a Commercial Driver’s License or equipment operation certification are preferred. The ability to obtain specialized licensure or certification is also preferred.
