What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Applicator or Apprentice position at Carolina Eastern-Crocker?
Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Area: Local territory based in Pavilion, NY, with destinations throughout Western NY.
Position Summary: Safely and accurately apply Ag crop protection products, fertilizer, and Ag lime at various
farm locations. Must maintain current Commercial Pesticide Applicators’ license, or willing to acquire, and attend
required training and “points” courses. Must adhere to all local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Must keep
accurate records and file all reports as required by the NYSDEC. Must have the ability to use application computer
equipment and possess the willingness to adapt to changing application technologies, as well as seasonal
variations in workload responsibilities. Practice safe handling of equipment and products. Will also work in shop on
maintenance and repair of equipment. The employee is also responsible to ensure customer satisfaction and
providing customer service. Employee will be responsible for other changing tasks as deemed necessary to
conform to an ever-changing industry.
Minimum Qualifications: Employee must possess and maintain a Commercial Pesticide Applicators license or be
willing to acquire. Required to attend training and “points” courses to maintain all licenses. The employee must be
safety oriented, customer driven and a team player. Must have a clean, safe driving record. NYS CDL A or B
license is a plus.
Physical Requirements: Employee should be able endure frequent physical activities such as lifting up to 50 lbs.
(occasionally up to 100 lbs.); climbing ladders, trailers and bending. Ability to use personal protective equipment
(PPE) when required.
Experience: Pesticide and fertilizer application experience would be beneficial. A strong Agronomy background
with practical agricultural experience a plus. Computer skills, strong organizational skills with attention to details,
strong communication skills, and the ability to interact positively with customers and co-workers a must. Good
math, reading, and comprehension skills necessary.
Education: Minimum high school education, with required licensing courses. Agricultural degree preferred, but
not necessary with adequate hands-on experience. Recent college graduates will be considered.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the Pavilion Manager and works together with other CEC
salesmen and dispatch. Will receive daily work assignments from dispatch.
Working Conditions: Must abide by safety rules and wear any safety equipment required for proper and safe
handling of Ag crop protection products. Multiple customer locations such as dairy and crop farms, corn meal plant;
which all may become dusty environments, varied daily schedule with potential long work hours and some
Saturday’s.
