Responsibilities
- Enter and review claim data prior to claim submissions, including but not limited to: patient demographics review, insurance verification, ICD-10 usage and pointers, CPT code assignment, modifiers, and place of service.
- Review and bill open current claims within timely filing limits.
- Submit third-party payer claims.
- Post both insurance and patient payments.
- Check the status of denied claims.
- Submit Corrected Claims, Disputes, Reconsiderations and Appeals in timely manner according to payer guidelines.
- Review and submit primary EOBs to the secondary payer for processing.
- Monitor insurance accounts receivable and follow up on all aged claims.
- Coordinate with client to retrieve missing or incorrect information in a timely fashion.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of insurance filing and relationship to ICD-10 and CPT coding conventions.
- Review medical record documentation to identify all services provided by physicians.
- Research charge processing and coding issues; review classification situations to determine the most appropriate codes.
- Must be flexible and willing to help in other areas of the office as needed.
- Other job duties as requested.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma with a college degree being preferred
- Medical Coding Certification with one of the following certifications: CPC, COC, CPB, CPEDC, from AAPC OR CCA, CCS-P, CCS, RHIT from AHIMA
- 2 years pediatric medical billing and coding experience
- 2 years South Carolina Medicaid experience including an advanced knowledge of South Carolina Medicaid billing rules, modifier usage, place of service considerations, and ability to research specific payer rules.
- 1 year denials and appeals experience
- 1 year accounts receivable experience
- ICD 10 knowledge
- Excellent grammar and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Computer savvy, able to work in various programs with great data entry skills
- Organized
- Detailed oriented
- Able to multi-task
