Job Summary:
Supervises and coordinates the activities of nursing and ancillary services personnel in absence of direct supervisor through interpretation of policies and procedures for a specific time frame. He or She directs and guides patient centered care and ensures optimal care and services in accordance with physician orders, joint commission, OSHA, nursing and departmental guidelines
Essential Functions:

- Supervises and coordinates patient care processes throughout the hospital during assigned shifts to assure safe, quality patient care. Assures appropriate staffing levels based on census and patient acuity
- Supervises and coordinates ancillary services personnel after normal hours of operation, on weekends and holidays
- Monitors activities of staff, takes immediate action when indicated and recommends disciplinary action to nursing director as necessary
- Provides direct patient care as necessary to assure quality care of patients
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures and standards of care/practice for the nursing department
- Participates in continuous monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Actively participates in hospital and nursing committees as assigned
- Utilizes effective interpersonal communication skills with all members of the health care team, patients and families/visitors. Maintains patient and employee confidentiality at all times. Participates in community activities as requested to promote wellness and the hospital. Attends management and committee meetings as scheduled
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate degree or higher in nursing
Certification:
- BLS required upon hire and continuously thereafter
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire and continuously thereafter. PALS - required within 8 months of hire and continuously thereafter. CPI - required within 6 months of hire and annually thereafter. CPPS - preferred
License:
- Current State license or Compact State License (if lives outside of SC)
Experience:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
