Our client is seeking a detail-oriented temporary Sales & Use Tax Specialist to assist with sales and use tax compliance, filings, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns across multiple states.
- Assist in registering states for compliance and setting up tax processes.
- Work through the existing backlog to ensure all filings are up to date.
- Research and interpret sales and use tax laws to maintain compliance with state and local regulations.
- Develop standardized guidelines and procedures for ongoing tax reporting.
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure timely remittance of payments.
- Address and resolve tax discrepancies, notices, and audits from tax authorities.
- Maintain and update exemption certificates and resale documentation.
- Support the implementation and optimization of tax software solutions.
- Assist with month-end and year-end tax reconciliations and reporting.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience in sales and use tax preparation, filings, and compliance.
- Familiarity with multi-state tax regulations and reporting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise and other tax software (Vertex, Avalara, OneSource preferred).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to research and interpret tax laws.
- Experience with tax reconciliation, exemption certificate management, and audit support.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
