Equipment Technician

Reports To: Operations Manager

Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full-time

Position Location: Jonesboro, GA

Overview:

The Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance and operation of solar and electronic traffic control equipment. This role involves travel in company vehicles and may require occasional nights out of town. While prior experience in traffic control, electrical, mechanical, forklift, or excavator work is beneficial, it is not mandatory. The technician will receive training under area supervisors to learn how to deploy and service various equipment.

Daily Duties:

  • Deliver and retrieve equipment to and from job sites.
  • Travel in company vehicles to diagnose and repair equipment, ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Learn to program, calibrate, maintain, and repair traffic control devices, including message boards, arrow boards, cameras, variable speed limit signals, microwave sensors, and portable traffic signals.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of truck-mounted attenuators and related equipment.
  • Support operations in the shop and on-site, including loading and painting concrete barrier walls.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to OSHA safety standards.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations, especially when working in traffic or hazardous conditions.
  • Perform additional assigned tasks to support the team

Position Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel as needed.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements

  • Sit, walk, kneel, bend, crawl, and crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of machines or vehicles to exact positions.
  • Ability to judge the distances between you and an object, depth perception.
  • Ability to respond to a signal when it appears, reaction time.
  • Coordinate the use of hands, arms, and legs fully. Reach for the handle and use it to manipulate objects and materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Vision – the ability to see details at close range and details at distance (either naturally or with correction).
  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Mental and visual attention is necessary to effectively complete work tasks.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work outside and be exposed to the weather.
  • Wear protective or safety equipment, i.e. safety boots/shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, etc.
  • May be exposed to high levels of noise, grease, dust, and a variety of substances that are typically associated with a construction site.
