Caron Transportation Systems USA is a bulk transportation company established in 2013 under the same ownership as Caron Transportation Systems located in Canada; which has been in the transportation industry for 65 years. The Human Resources and Safety Manager reports directly to the Vice President and General Manager of Caron USA. This position is directly responsible for ensuring the safety culture of Caron USA and will advise and recommend current and developing safety initiatives as well as ensure that our safety policies and programs meeting legislative requirements.
Job Duties:
Human Resources Functional Area
Employee Management Responsibilities
Collaborate and work with Caron USA management
Oversee and support US payroll processes
Provide guidance and support to US management team regarding employee and labor relations, disciplinary issues, and policy matters
US HR Program Administration, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation
Oversee all Human Resources functions and provide support to Caron USA
Remain current with all applicable US federal and state employment laws and regulations
Develop and maintain Caron USA Human Resources policies and procedures
Lead and complete projects as assigned
Assist in the development, implementation, and revitalization of required Human Resources programs, processes, and policies
Oversee US benefit program application and administration
Track and report on US Human Resources performance metrics/measure
Safety Management Functional Area
Administrative
Assist in the development, implementation, communication and enforcement of safety practices, policies, and plans of Caron USA
Ensure permits and registrations are up to date
Ensure driver training and safety certificates are up to date
Utilize Axon to enter and monitor reminders for equipment and drivers (service dates, certifications, mileages etc.)
Safety & Compliance
Identify hazards at various worksite locations and make recommendations
Maintain logbooks to ensure driver hours comply with regulatory hours of service
Ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by Caron USA comply with safety, fire, DOT, and any other State/Federal requirements and regulations
Ensure all incidents and/or accidents are properly reported and addressed within a timely manner
Provide necessary training, leadership, organization, and control regarding Caron USA safety programs
Oversee workers' compensation case management and reporting requirements
Accept full authority to take any necessary action to maintain overall safe practices and procedures; including the authority to cease an unsafe operating procedure
Perform field audits when required
Provide day-to-day guidance and advice to employees
Resolve customer safety concerns in a professional and timely matter. Perform assigned tasks in accordance with the Caron QMS and production standards required by the Company and the industry as a whole
Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor/management
Our Ideal Candidate:
Experience:
5-10 years of directly related experience
Education:
Certificate, diploma, or degree in a safety and/or human resources management
OSHA certification an asset
Human resources designation an asset (SHRM/PHR)
Travel
Travel required (25%)
