What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adventure Therapist part time position at Caron Treatment Centers?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In this position, you will work with individuals facing emotional, behavioral, and psychological challenges associated with substance use and mental health disorders.
- Help clients build coping skills, life skills, emotional strength, and a deeper sense of connection to themselves and the natural world through immersive, outdoor experiential activities.
- Lead and facilitate on-site experiential and expressive therapy.
- Lead and facilitate off-site adventure therapy sessions focused on promoting healing and personal growth.
- Develop individualized therapeutic plans that integrate nature-based interventions.
- Foster a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore emotional and psychological challenges.
- Collaborate with other clinical staff to ensure a comprehensive treatment approach for each client.
- Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of clients’ progress in therapy.
- Facilitation of outdoor activities and team-building exercises such as hiking, surfing, climbing, fishing, canoeing, etc.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during outdoor activities.
- Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution as needed.
- Document and maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in adventure therapy or outdoor-based therapeutic practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field required, master’s degree and/or licensure preferred.
- Certified Adventure Therapist (CAT) credential and/or Wilderness and Adventure Therapy (WAT) credential preferred.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR required.
- Passion for working in a nature-based healing environment.
- If in recovery, one to two 2 years of uninterrupted sobriety preferred.

- Understanding of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of outdoor survival skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate groups.
- Physical ability to participate in and lead outdoor activities.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to remote locations.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
