Carpenter Co. has immediate openings for a Forklift Operator in our Laminated Mattress Department on 1st Shift [6am to 2pm] at our Elkhart, Indiana foam manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for to communicate with line workers, leads, supervisors, and managers to ensure the correct materials are staged and ready to use ahead of time with no downtime. The hourly starting pay rate for this position is $23.18 to $24.07 per hour.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain daily communication with Quality Control, Department Manager and other employees in the department and will spend the majority of the time on a forklift. This position will also involve learning the many varieties of mattress manufactured by this department.

Additional Responsibilities of this position include the following:

• Must be able to read and understand the labeling process.
• Must be able to understand the daily schedule and to keep accurate inventory of all Raw and Finished Goods material items.
• Must maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work environment.
• Must learn the different types of mattresses produced and the configuration of each.
• Will be responsible for the transporting of Raw Material and Finished Goods into/out of Racks, on Pallets, or box cubes to production lines or specified staging areas with a forklift.
• May need to be able to maneuver and lift materials and finished products weighing up to 50 pounds individually (in a team lift up to 90 pounds with other operators), depending on position.
• Will print sales orders docs, scan and apply labels.
• Will properly use the Manual and robot stretch wrapper to wrap BIB box cubes with corner boards.
• Must maintain Value of Order and organize the storage areas.
• Must fully understand quality standards as prescribed by management.
• Must be able to work at a fast pace, have strong organization skills, quality and attention to detail.

Skills/ Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree preferred.
• One year manufacturing experience
• One year of assembly experience preferred.
• Must have basic reading and math skills
• Must be able to read and interpret a tape measure.
• Must be able to use computerized equipment in day to day operations and have computer knowledge.
• Must be able to lift mattresses in a team with other operators, up to 90 pounds the entire production shift.
