Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Shipping Clerk on 1st shift at our Mount Airy, NC manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient unloading and loading of trucks and performing final quality checks on finished product per customer requirements. Additionally, this position will complete customer service transactions.
Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will maintain daily communication with coworkers, manager, company and commercial drivers. The position works in a normal manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature changes. Major challenges include proper loading of material on trucks to maximize usage of space.
Additional responsibilities of the Shipping Clerk will include:
- Load trucks in proper sequence.
- Check loading tickets.
- Lockout trailers before loading and unlock once loading is complete.
- Use forklift to load trailers as needed.
- Record and track information in inventory control system.
- Verify trucks have been loaded properly.
- Move stock in loading area as necessary.
- Inspect trailers for damage.
- Run manifest and bills of lading.
- Handle finished bedding goods up to 75 lbs.
- Lock out and chock wheels.
- Perform weekly/monthly inventory count.
- Material handle bedding goods in staging area.
- Ensure that trailers are not damaged during loading.
- Make sure dock bays and outside dock is clean.
- Perform housekeeping on equipment and surrounding work area.
- Determine when trailer is OK to load. May call supervisor/truck shop as needed.
- File customer pods.
- Create POs for Freight, Trim and Utility Bills.
- Print reports and necessary paperwork and distribute to the plant production areas.
- Work with corporate and sales on credit holds.
- Handling of Back orders.
- Scheduling, planning, and nesting of orders and some other customers into the SAP system. Adjusts schedule as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Skills / Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior experience driving a forklift.
- Must be forklift certified.
- Must have basic reading, writing, math, design and computer skills.
- Must have the ability to type, spell, use of calculator, and perform data entry.
- Phone etiquette.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
Shift Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm
Pay rate: $17.91 - $18.12
