We are seeking a part-time (20 hours per week temp to hire) highly organized and detail-oriented Housing Finance Specialist to join our team. This individual will be responsible for managing financial operations related to housing units, including rent collection, financial reporting, budgeting, and maintaining tenant accounts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of financial management in the housing or real estate industry and will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions and the efficient operation of our housing programs.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the collection of unpaid rents for multiple housing units and building, ensuring timely payments from tenants and addressing any issues that may arise.
2. Stay up-to-date of HUD audit compliance requirements of maintaining accurate tenant ledgers.
3. Prepare accurate and detailed financial reports related to housing operations, including income, expenses, and budget variances. Provide regular updates to management regarding the financial health of housing units.
4. Maintain and update tenant financial records, ensuring that all rent payments and adjustments are accurately recorded. Address tenant billing inquiries and discrepancies promptly, and accurately.
5. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding housing finance and rent collection. Maintain records for audits and provide necessary documentation to support financial reviews.
6. Utilize financial software and systems to track and manage housing financials, making recommendations for improvements or updates when necessary.
7. Work closely with property managers, assistant property managers, and other team members to ensure communications operation of the housing units.
8. Communicate with senior staff to provide up to date information and supporting documentation to assist with Non-payment actions, and Eviction proceedings when applicable.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in finance, accounting, or property management, with a focus on rent collection or housing finance.
· Proven experience in accounting and rent collection.
· Strong understanding of financial management and accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant housing laws and regulations is a plus.
- Experience with property management software (e.g., Yardi) and experience in the maintenance of tenant ledgers.
- Knowledge of affordable housing programs and regulations (e.g., Section 8, Low-Income Housing Tax Credit).
- Certification in housing finance or property management (e.g., Housing Credit Certified Professional, Certified Property Manager) preferred but not required.
