Carrdan is a locally-owned distributor of industrial/automotive fasteners and is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our team in our Temperance, MI office.
The accountant position will develop, evaluate and implement accounting and finance related systems to support the organization overall. The accountant will prepare financial reports and general ledgers for the primary company and affiliated holding companies in accordance with GAAP, IRS and company standards. This position will oversee AP,AR, and fixed assets and will work closely with purchasing and warehouse, and complete ancillary projects as needed.
This is a full-time, salary exempt position, is required to report on-site Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pay is commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and analyze journal entries, income statement, balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other financial reports on a regular basis.
- Oversee and have a strong understanding of all aspects of AR and AP to include, but not limited to the following:
- - review entries for GL account accuracy and post to ledgers
- - review and post cash receipts to appropriate bank account
- - bank and credit card reconciliations
- - set-up of new customers; ensure credit inquiries are processed
- - collections
- - create/schedule wire transfers and ACH payments
- - pay suppliers and other vendors
- - collect W-9’s and work with CPA to issue 1099’s
- Ensure federal and state estimated tax payments are processed
- Work with local third-party payroll company and enter payroll journal entries and file prepared tax returns as needed
- Work with other departments to monitor and maintain an accurate inventory valuation to include:
- - entering inventory adjustments
- - running inventory valuation reports and comparing against general ledger accounts
- - tracking status of international shipments and ensuring payments are made in advance of shipment arrival when required
- processing credit and debit memos
- Maintains accounting information, files and records to ensure the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines
- Supervise accounting assistant
- Updates KPI’s for accounting
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is a must
- 7 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in industrial or automotive industries.
- Expertise of GAAP standards and application to industrial and automotive applications
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook etc.
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience is required. Experience with Distribution One and QuickBooks Enterprise financial management systems (preferred).
- Ability to adapt to new systems and processes and effectively document processes and train others
- Well-versed in manipulating data in Excel, strong analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead others and build strong relationships
- Excellent follow-up, problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work Independently, but with a team-player attitude and willing to assist others
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, and the ability to prioritize to ensure deadlines are met
- Provide a professional example, accuracy, and consistency in work performance
- Consult with other managers outside of accounting to ensure the accuracy of the inventory valuation
- Proficient at using a computer, phone, copier and scanner
The right candidate will report to our office Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position requires the employee to be on-site each workday.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has one direct report and is responsible for the following:
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies.
- Training and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Conducting regular reviews of performance (at minimum annually and more often if desired) that identifies strengths, weaknesses and offers additional training as identified in the review.
- Assess the developmental needs and makes recommendations for their advancement as appropriate
- Should there be a need for additional resources in the future, this position will be responsible for the hiring and performance management of the employee(s) within that department.
