An Architectural Job Captain with 6 to 8 years of experience on the path to licensure is an emerging professional who plays a vital role in the architectural project team. The Job Captain assists the Project Architect. Ideally, the Job Captain is assigned to one project at a time, learning the various aspects of architecture from Schematic Design through obtaining a Building Permit. While the Job Captain may have limited interaction with the client or consultants, they are usually the most proficient in working in the REVIT model and can identify clashes between the various disciplines. This person may have limited interaction with the client but will work with the Project Designer to implement design intent into the model and documents.


Qualities:

Technical Proficiency: An Architectural Job Captain should possess a strong technical foundation in architectural systems. They should have a good understanding of building materials, construction techniques, and building codes. Proficiency in BIM and other relevant software tools for documenting the project is also essential.

Attention to Detail: Job Captains should be detail-oriented and have a keen eye for accuracy. They should ensure that design drawings and documentation are precise and comply with project requirements and industry standards. Attention to detail is crucial for producing high-quality deliverables.

Organization and Time Management: Job Captains should be skilled in managing their time effectively and organizing their work. They should be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. Strong organizational skills contribute to the efficiency and productivity of the project team.

Collaboration and Teamwork: Job Captains work closely with project architects, designers, and other team members. They should possess excellent collaboration and teamwork skills, actively participating in project discussions, providing support to team members, and contributing to the overall success of the project.

Problem-Solving Abilities: Job Captains should have problem-solving skills to tackle challenges that arise during the project. They should be able to identify issues, propose solutions, and collaborate with team members to address design and technical problems effectively. Proactive problem-solving contributes to project success.

Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for Job Captains to convey ideas and information accurately. They should be able to communicate with team members, consultants, and contractors clearly and concisely. Good communication skills contribute to efficient coordination and collaboration.


Responsibilities:

Schematic Design and Design Development: Job Captains are responsible for producing design development and construction drawings based on the design intent provided by the project architect or designer. They create accurate and detailed drawings that comply with applicable codes and standards.

Coordination and Documentation: Job Captains assist in coordinating drawings and documentation within the project team. They work closely with other team members to integrate various design elements and disciplines. They may also assist in preparing specifications and compiling project-related documents.

Building Code Compliance: Job Captains should have a basic understanding of building codes and regulations. They ensure that design solutions and documentation align with the applicable codes and standards. They may assist in conducting code reviews and addressing code-related issues.

Construction Administration Support: Job Captains may be involved in construction administration tasks. They respond to requests for information (RFIs), review and process submittals, and assist in resolving design-related issues during construction. They may also conduct site visits to monitor construction progress.

Quality Control: Job Captains contribute to quality control efforts by reviewing drawings and documentation for accuracy and consistency. They assist in identifying and resolving any errors or discrepancies, ensuring that the project deliverables meet the required standards.

Continued Learning and Professional Development: Job Captains actively seek opportunities for professional growth and development. They stay updated with industry trends, attend relevant seminars or workshops, and may pursue additional certifications or qualifications to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Salary : $85,000 - $110,000
