Carrier is looking for talented and motivated principal investigators, systems engineers, and researchers who will be a part of Carrier’s Innovation Hub Americas, to enable the development of innovative and novel Energy technologies in HVAC&R (Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration) applications. Innovation Hub Americas is in Syracuse, which is the North American center for Carrier’s product design and development, as well as groundbreaking innovative research. We ideate, design, verify and validate new products and technologies across Carrier’s global portfolio, supporting Carrier’s goal to be the global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and drive the technical vision, as the principal investigator for innovative energy management systems’ controls, communication, and optimization.
- Lead R&D efforts; exploring new technologies and tools, reviewing patents, journals, and publicly available data to synthesize technical feasibility, and propose strategies for EMS controls and optimization.
- Own energy management controls and communication development, including software and controls algorithms, verification and validation, and compliance with standards and regulations, in collaboration with relevant experts.
- Lead teams of multi-disciplinary subject matter experts focusing on technology development and delivery following Carrier specific processes and best practices.
- Clearly articulate value of work conducted; proactively mitigate schedule risks and implement improvements.
- Communicate with different stakeholders, including leadership, management, internal and external customers on plans, risks, and results, through both written and verbal channels.
- Balance significant workload (lead and support multiple projects), propose priorities and readily shift activities to maximize impact.
- Must be self-driven and capable of driving development projects autonomously, while gathering feedback from appropriate experts and stakeholders, and implementing continuous improvement processes.
- Assist in the training and development of the EMS and wider Carrier team as relates to controls, communication, and optimization.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical or Systems Engineering
- 7 years of relevant experience in research and development, or academic role, in controls, electrification or electrical engineering related to energy management systems.
- 2 years of experience in developing systems and components testing for technology performance demonstrations.
- 2 years of experience in serving as principal investigator or team lead.
- 2 years of experience with embedded and/or cloud software development
