SSA Marine is seeking a Tax Manager with expertise in federal and state income tax to join our dynamic tax team. The Tax Manager will play a crucial role in managing income tax planning, compliance, reporting, process improvements, and various initiatives. Additionally, this individual will oversee sales and use tax compliance and reporting. This role will collaborate closely with the legal, accounting, and finance teams, as well as with business operations and leaders.
- Prepares and review various federal and state income tax returns and related compliance filings.
- Prepares and review federal income tax provision, other tax-related financial statements in compliance under ASC 740, including the worldwide effective tax rate, deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, and tax footnote.
- Manages the preparation and review of sales and use tax returns for monthly, quarterly and annual returns.
- Manages and assists in various income and local and sales and use tax audits.
- Assist with special projects related to identifying and mitigating U.S. tax compliance risks in conjunction with new tax legislation, business initiatives, and mergers and acquisitions, etc.
- Drive process improvement initiatives.
- Maintains a knowledge of U.S. tax rules and associated forms (1065 and 1120 returns) and monitor tax law changes.
- Research complex tax issues and prepare technical memos and documentation.
- Assists in developing tax staff and communicating with tax department leaders, business leaders and other departments such as legal, accounting, treasury, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or equivalent.
- Active CPA and/or LLM, Masters in Taxation preferred.
- 5 years overall tax experience.
- Big 4, federal or corporate public experience is a plus.
- Strong organization, analytical, data-management, inter-personal and communications skills.
- Comfortable working in deadline driven environments and managing multiple, competing priorities and requests, while maintaining high standards for quality and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle workload and competing priorities independently.
- Strong technology skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and ability to learn tax preparation software.
- Excellent analytical, technical, research and writing skill with proficiency in tax compliance.
