Job Summary:
 
SUPERVISES: 
1.  All personnel assigned to the middle school
2.  Other personnel as assigned by the Superintendent
 
 
POSITION  GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  1. Establishes, maintains, and is accountable for an effective learning environment in the school.
 
  1. Exercises leadership in establishing and clarifying short and long-range educational goals.
 
  1. Promotes positive action toward the realization of school objectives through efficient procedures, curriculum, extra-curricular programs, and the establishment of staff, student, and community committees.
 
  1. Designs and implements a building-level communication system which effectively meets the needs of the staff and students.
 
  1. Develops a program of public relations in order to further the community's understanding and support of the educational program.
 
  1. Develops and implements a staff-improvement program for teachers in the building in coordination with the superintendent.
 
  1. Assumes major responsibility in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating all certificated personnel assigned to the school.
 
  1. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of all non-certificated personnel assigned to the school.
 
  1. Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all classes in the Middle School and for ensuring that all students are scheduled for classes in accordance with Board Policy.
 
  1. Assumes responsibility for the safety of all personnel and exercises decisive leadership in crisis situations.
 
  1. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
 
  1. Establishes and maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to due process of the rights of students.
 
  1. Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests and monitor the expenditure of funds.
 
  1. Assumes the responsibility for the observance and implementation of Board policies and administration regulations.
 
  1. Enforces all district policies.
 
  1. Coordinates scheduling of school/community activities with the superintendent's office.
 
  1. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and all other paperwork required by local policy and state law.
 
  1. Directs the coordination and maintenance of the school's pupil services including guidance and counseling, health, library and student records.
 
  1. Defines and delegates appropriate supervisory responsibility for all Middle School activities.  Plans for the proper conduct of participants and spectators at all public events.
 
  1. Delegates authority of personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the administrators.
 
  1. Reports to the superintendent regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, finance, curriculum, facilities, equipment and supplies.
 
  1. Keeps abreast of trends, promising ideas, and research in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional literature and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
 
  1. Manages and be accountable for the effectiveness of the student services and activities programs, including development and proper implementation of guidelines for activity sponsors.
 
  1. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed to by the superintendent.
 
  1. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students
 
  1. Assists in the development and implementation of accommodations to Section 504, ADA and IDEA for the building.
 
  1. Assists in the communication of the school's philosophy, purposes, programs, and problems to the students, staff, central staff, Board, and community.
 
  1. Assists in the preparation of the student and teacher handbooks.
 
  1. Assists in the development of appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of students in the Carroll Community School District and assume responsibility for the enforcement of all disciplinary policies.
 
  1. Assists in the organization, planning, and implementation of summer school programs.
 
  1. Performs such other duties as the superintendent may assign.

Qualifications:

1.  Must hold a valid Iowa Principal’s endorsement for the appropriate educational level.
2.  Iowa Evaluator Approval
3.  Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
4.   Previous experience preferred
