POSITION TITLE:COUNSELOR - MIDDLE SCHOOL
QUALIFICATIONS:1.A Master’s Degree in guidance and counseling (K-12 endorsement preferred).
2.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

POSITION GOAL:Organize and direct the guidance program designed to assist each student in achieving the most effective development in the full range of those individual needs (intellectual, emotional, social, psychological) which bear upon the students’ educational process.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Assists teachers in acquiring necessary knowledge and insights regarding the behavioral characteristics and educational needs of emerging adolescents.
2.Assists teachers and other professional staff in the development of curriculum and instructional strategies that will promote a positive extension of the guidance program into the classroom.
3.Maintains appropriate, adequate, and meaningful records.
4.Conducts classroom sessions with students on a regular basis.
5.Assists the Middle School principal in planning and presentation of orientation programs to incoming fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students and parents.
6.Develops a student support group to help new students become acquainted and involved in Carroll Middle School activities, and also serve in crisis (death/loss) situations.
7.Participates actively in annual parent-teacher conferences.
8.Attends Middle School team meetings to maintain open communication with regular and special education teachers.
9.Maintains positive and frequent communication with parents about student progress.

32.Provides students with specific oral and written preparation and feedback for standardized testing.
33.Insures the maintenance of pupil records and implements procedures that will encourage their appropriate use.
34.Assists in facilitating the transition of students from middle school to high school.
35.Completes reports to the Department of Education as needed.
36.Keeps up to date by attending workshops, professional meetings, and summer schools at colleges and universities.
37.Assists students with post-secondary transition planning through academic counseling and the arrangement of college visits.
38.Schedules such activities to support current trends/topics in education at times arranging for outside resources to partner with for the benefit of our students.
39.Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Middle School principal.
