What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Analyst - Department of Public Safety position at Carroll County Government?
As a GIS Analyst in the Department of Public Safety, you will correlate data and mapping to real world situations. Working independently, you will collect or receive data from sources and manage that data for analysis and decision making. The Director will rely on you to effectively communicate and coordinate with other technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Essential Duties
- Maintain accurate critical basic GIS feature classes for County GIS users. Perform GIS maintenance for dispatch maps.
- Maintain Next Generation 911 data that is accurate and up to date and ensure that schema complies with NENA Standards.
- Support other Public Safety systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Emergency Management applications.
- Act as the Addressing Coordinator for the County. Responsible for assigning addresses as well as handling all addressing issues and correction efforts. Coordinates source data between county agencies and related sources.
- Act as the lead GIS Analyst in the Emergency Operation Center during activations at various activation levels.
- Provide GIS training for users in Public Safety.
- Participate in local and regional GIS collaboration organizations and groups.
- Create, coordinate, and maintain mapping projects. Follow and implement database design and mapping standards.
- Prepare and maintain databases, maps, reports, statistical information, and tables. Develop scripts for analysis and data manipulation.
- Use GIS software to produce and display geographic information. Develop and design digital mapping applications and tools.
- Maintain current knowledge of software methods, trends, and techniques.
- Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.

You Might Be a Good Fit If
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in geography, Computer Science, Public Safety Administration, or a related field
- Three or more years of related experience
- A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
