Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Health Consultant to join our interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Behavioral Health Consultant will play a pivotal role in providing integrated behavioral health services in a manner consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision, and ICARE values. This position involves collaborating closely with medical providers to deliver comprehensive care that addresses both physical and behavioral health needs, participating in pre-visit planning, and conducting brief interventions, along with out-patient therapy, to address behavioral barriers in managing health conditions during clinic visits.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive assessments to determine appropriate treatment plans and interventions
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and holistic care for clients
Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and documentation
Advocate for clients’ needs and coordinate community resources to support their well-being
Stay current with best practices and evidence-based interventions in the field of mental health
Provides individual patient/family therapy and crisis intervention
Maintains current knowledge of social, medical and psychiatric services available within the community
Assessing significant social and emotional factors for patients and families
Communicate with patients and family to help them understand, accept and follow care plan
Be knowledgeable of other human/social services for purposes of referral if the hospital is unable to provide a particular service and maintain documentation of such referrals
Conducts clinical interviews and recommends levels of care consistent with the treatment needs to patients and their families
Functions as the therapist for patients and families with the psychiatrist as clinical team leader
Treats patients and families with respect and dignity
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
Actively participates in assigned team meetings and other meetings, as appropriate
Communicates and assists with documentation requirements to meet accreditation, regulatory, and billing requirements
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and effective in stressful situations
Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate on patient care and performance improvement activities
Promotes personal professional growth through continuing education, seminars/conferences, professional journals and societies
Monitor and evaluate processes and workflows; provides recommendations to optimize performance/outcomes; works with hospital leadership to implement recommended strategies
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements for clinical services, case management, and evidence-based practices
Ensure all established policies, procedures, standards of practice, and conduct guidelines are followed in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations, and hospital policy
Assist other department personnel as necessary; performs other duties as assigned
