PRIMARY PURPOSE :

Under the direct supervision of the Director – Information Technology, responsible to support networks, hardware, equipment, and software used in all county departments.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES :

  • Ensures the dependability and security of the County’s technology infrastructure.
  • Designs and implements computer system / network configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain a diverse set of workstation operating systems, client / server and local applications on computers, laptops, and attached peripherals, network operating system, other software, and associated cabling and wiring.
  • Troubleshoot end-user problems, and analyze and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Repairs user workstations, modifies configurations as necessary, replaces faulty components, and builds / rebuilds systems on a variety of platforms.
  • Provide hardware, software, and network training to staff.
  • Install and maintain network monitoring and network analyzing tools.
  • Identify potential network security threats and respond to security violations.
  • Initiate routine diagnostics to isolate causes of system failures and make minor equipment repairs.
  • Update virus protection software to keep data and communications protected.
  • Maintain documentation relating to network design and changes, and router configurations.
  • Communicate networking issues to employees and management, and fixing software and hardware as necessary.
  • Develop relationships with technology vendors
  • Maintain current knowledge of issues, trends, and developments in the field of Information Technology

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three to five years progressively responsible related experience;
  • Equivalent education and / or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Solid troubleshooting skills to provide accurate and timely network repairs.
  • Extensive knowledge of software, networking, and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of industry in standards for networking software and hardware.
  • Familiarity with a large number of operating systems and network server operating systems.
  • Ability to work with staff members at all levels, vendors, providers, and others using tact and good judgment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
