Job Summary:
Performs a variety of public services including programming, technology assistance, information, and circulation duties to meet the needs of the community; works in the childrens department under general supervision; performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Develops storytime and programming ideas, including programs with outside presenters; submits to department head for approval.
- Presents storytimes and programs, including set-up and tear-down.
- Prepares and presents booktalks, event activities and programs to various schools and community organizations.
- Maintains and incorporates knowledge of current early literacy and educational trends;
- Evaluates effectiveness of programs and storytimes presented.
- Greets customers and responds to information, circulation, reference, and readers advisory requests using model reference and readers advisory behaviors.
- Maintains current knowledge of information resources and search tools to assist customers.
- Analyzes customers questions to decide search strategy and uses appropriate information resources to meet customer needs.
- Uses current knowledge of Library related technology to assist and instruct customers and perform basic troubleshooting.
- Manages multiple customers simultaneously while providing exemplary customer service.
- Processes customers requests for materials.
- Registers customers for programs.
- Weeds, replaces, and adds materials to juvenile and young adult collections as directed and according to branch and system guidelines, suggests additions to collection area.
- Creates and maintains library displays.
- Communicates library policies and procedures to customers as appropriate.
- Serves as librarian-in-charge; responsibilities include but are not limited to opening and closing activities, resolving customer complaints, handling facility and security issues and communicating necessary information to staff.
- Participates in meetings, teams/committees/workgroups, outreach activities and training opportunities, as appropriate.
- Conducts library tours for various groups.
- May act as Passport agent and process passport applications.
- Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of reference and readers advisory services.
2. Current knowledge of information sources and search tools.
3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of collection development and maintenance.
4. Knowledge of CCPL policies, procedures, and guidelines.
5. Ability to maintain Maryland Library Associate continuing education requirements.
6. Ability to operate and demonstrate all relevant technologies.
7. Ability to operate Library equipment.
8. Ability to develop and present programs.
9. Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service.
10. Excellent communication skills.
Education and Experience:
1. Bachelors degree.
2. Requires 90 contact hours of approved in-service training through Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) within first 2 years of employment or 9 hours of formal academic course work in library science.
3. Must be willing to receive US Department of State Passport Acceptance Agent Training within 12 months of hire and actively participate in passport services.
Salary : $33,696 - $53,914
