Job Title: Food Service Leader Reports To: Store Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt Employee Type: Full-Time
Job Summary:
The Food Service Leader (FSL) is responsible for ensuring each customer’s order is delivered promptly and with utmost customer satisfaction. In partnership with the Store Management team, the FSL is responsible for the day-to-day food service operations which include enforcement of recipes and procedures, product ordering, food quality assurance, employee training, and preserving sanitation requirements.
The FSL is third in the chain of command, reporting directly to the Store Manager and the Assistant Store Manager.
The FSL is enrolled in, and is committed to, the in-store FSL training program. A key requirement of the FSL training program and FSL role, is to be available during the highest volume food service shifts/times in order to receive and rotate foodservice deliveries and organize crucial duties to staff members.
The FSL must meet or exceed the training and certification requirements of the shift leader including, but not limited to, Equipment training certification, Leadership training, Food safety (S.U.R.E.) certification, and all other food service excellence modules and classroom certifications. In high volume food service locations, mastery of the FSL position is required as a pre-requisite for promotion to the next level position of Assistant Store Manager (ASM)
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates expertise on all items related to the food service operation.
- Provides superior customer service to all customers: greeting, assisting, suggestive selling, responding to and addressing complaints, following the Make it right program requirements, and thanking each customer.
- Works as the expeditor in the food service stations during peak periods.
- Ensures all food service employees are working their required stations, maintaining maximize efficiency, and following proper health and hygiene protocols.
- Assists in implementing new food programs, food products, limited time offers, and promotions as directed by the Food Service Department.
- Guarantees preparedness and rush readiness for all high-volume food periods.
- Executes proper food service orders and vendor check in order to ensure all food and beverage items are always in stock; performs food service inventory counts and reconciliation.
- Assists the Store Manager in preparing work schedules, guaranteeing proper food service station coverage.
- Appoints the day-to-day, weekly, and monthly food service tasks to store employees.
- Drives high standards and expectations around food quality, food safety/sanitation requirements, and store cleanliness by adhering to and maintaining the expectations of all internal and external regulatory inspections.
- Assists with training and development of all food service team members and ensures all food service employees follow the requirements of the company M.O.O. program.
- Maintains the sanitation and organization of all foodservice storage areas (including walk-in refrigerators and freezers) as well as all equipment maintenance and sanitation requirements.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- S.U.R.E. food safety certification (or the successful completion of High’s food safety certification within 2 months of hire) required.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
- Ability to work well individually as well as in a team environment.
- Strong communication, relationship building, and interpersonal skills required.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Proven self-starter with demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions.
- Ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays as needed by the business.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable transportation required.
Working Conditions:
- Retail environment with occasional exposure to dust, extreme temperatures, contact with petroleum and/or cleaning products.
- Constant standing with frequent bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Employees are expected to come to work and maintain full store operations in all weather conditions unless closure of the store is ordered by the company.
Qualifications

- S.U.R.E. food safety certification (or the successful completion of High’s food safety certification within 2 months of hire) required.
