Primary Purpose
To provide students with an attractive and safe natural environment in which to learn.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Preferred High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier.
- One (1) year experience groundskeeper preferred
- Ability to read English.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions
Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping
- Maintain and care for school grounds.
- Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer if needed.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance.
- Experiment with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to the soil.
- Prune trees and trim hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.
- Mow lawns with power mower.
- Connect sprinkler equipment and water lawns and flower beds.
- Inspect flowers, shrubs, and tress for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests.
- Shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways and spread sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping.
- Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
