This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space located in Carson City, Nevada. Under general direction, monitors activities in the Carson City Robert “Bob” Crowell Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) to ensure public safety and compliance with rules and regulations; serves as supervisor to part-time hourly employees. Provides patrons with a safe and friendly environment through customer service, safety training, general sports activities, general facility maintenance, and ongoing staff training. May be responsible for opening and/or closing the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center facility.
Individuals may choose between the following PERS Retirement plans:
Employer-Paid PERS Retirement: $20.3113 - 28.4357 hourly / $42,247.40 - 59,146.36 annually
Employee/Employer-Paid PERS Retirement: $24.1049 - 33.7469 hourly / $50,138.14 - 70,193.50 annually

Examples of Duties
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
- Observes patrons in the facility at all times, enforces facility rules, aide in any medical emergencies, and ensures all activities are being conducted in a safe manner.
- Provides full range of sports programs to the complete range of learners at the facility.
- Opens and closes the MAC facility and supervises part-time and seasonal staff.
- Performs or directs the performance of basic tasks associated with caring for the MAC as well as Sports Facilities
- Assists management with various administrative tasks associated with the facility's operations.
- Provides customer services and information to guests and visitors; reports and resolves complaints, special requests, safety conditions, and security issues.
- Completes accident/incident reports as necessary. Ensures all accidents/incidents are reported to supervisor.
- Ensures cleanliness of the facility; performs and assigns cleaning tasks and projects to staff; ensures regular equipment and building safety checks are completed; ensures cleanliness of bathrooms and changing facilities.
- Monitors and warns patrons against dangerous practices; ensures all activities and sports are being conducted in a safe and orderly manner in coordination with facility policy and rules.
- Performs general front desk operations including program registrations, membership sales, and collecting fees and reconciling the money collected during shift for deposit.
- Assists Manager with leading and coordinating the activities of the MAC staff; coordinates, schedules, trains, and monitors the work of MAC staff; works in partnership with the Sports PT staff and Recreation Sports Coordinator.
- Provides guidance MAC staff and/or Sports staff on a day-to-day basis.
- Contributes to the overall quality of the unit's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending, and implementing improved policies and procedures.
- Maintains a variety of records; makes periodic and special reports of work performed.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Typical Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to High School diploma or GED; AND one (1) year of experience working or volunteering in sports recreation programs; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
SPECIAL NOTE: This position, along with other child care providers, are one of many groups of professionals required to report known or reasonable suspicion of abuse and/or neglect of children in their care and are considered mandated reporters as outlined in Nevada Revised Statutes.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid driver's license
- CPR/First Aid/ AED Certificate
The following certifications and training are required within 6-months of employment:
- Mandated Reporting: Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect
- Driver's Training (18 years of age or older)
- Alcohol Compliance Training (21 years of age or older)
Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of employee supervision, including selection, work planning, organization, performance review and evaluation, and employee training and discipline.
- The rules, regulations, policies, and operating procedures of the Carson City Robert “Bob” Crowell Multi-Purpose Athletic Center.
- Carson City policies and procedures.
- Basic knowledge to properly and safely setup various types of sports equipment.
- First Aid, CPR, AED
- Safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
- Computer applications related to the work.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Customer service methods to effectively assist customers of the aquatic facility.
- Leading and controlling recreation activities and participants.
- Promoting a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior.
- Coordinating work, providing training, and delegating tasks and authority.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Under General Supervision - Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions.

Mobility to work in a typical Athletic setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Supplemental Information
- All new employees will serve a probationary period of twelve (12) months. Such employees are not subject to the collective bargaining agreement and may be laid off or discharged during this period for any reason, or no reason.
- Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
- Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
- Employees may be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment.
- New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation and a drug screening. Employment is contingent upon passing the background and the drug screening.
