Summary
Under the direction of the nurse manager and supervision of the professional nurse, performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations. Population served by this position is all age groups.
Responsibilities
Unit Specific
Emergency Department
- Keeps patient records accurately identified. Maintains accurate clinical records, documenting information as per hospital policy, i.e. ERP call logs, stroke, DME paperwork, and burn reporting.
- Prepares special forms and packets, i.e. COBRA, Legal 2000, etc. Coordinates with receiving transfer centers.
Ambulatory Recovery Center
- Accurately transcribes physician orders in a timely manner per hospital policy.
- Checks charts daily for incomplete histories and orders; brings same to the attention of the appropriate member of the health care team for correction. Prepares daily patient services requisitions; i.e. dietary, central supply.
- Notifies Pharmacy of new physician orders.
- Orders unit supplies to maintain an adequate and cost-effective inventory of the unit’s equipment, stock and supplies. Assists with receiving, distributing and sorting supplies brought to the unit. Prepares requisitions and reports maintenance repairs. Checks to ensure accurate charging of patient supply items.
- Completes requests for non-medical services; e.g. spiritual counseling.
- Responsible for obtaining lab and x-ray reports and notifying nurses via a computer printout. Notifies physician of results as per order.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year’s work experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirement.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

Required:
- Must successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry
- EKG class within 6 months of hire or position entry
