We serve a population of over 250,000 and feature two hospitals, two urgent cares, an emergent care center, outpatient services and a provider network with 19 regional locations.

Summary

Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the patient registration / demographic information obtained during each patient encounter. Responsible for collection of copays / deductibles as identified. Ensures the completion of all documents required at point of patient access. The population served by this position consists of all age groups.

Responsibilities

1. Ensures the accuracy of all patient encounter information (demographics / insurance). 97% accuracy to meet standard. 99% accuracy rate to exceed standard.

2. Ensures that current authorizations are in place for scheduled patients at point of patient arrival and in the absence of authorization, immediately notifies pre-service department and ancillary department.

3. Ensures that 99% of patient share of cost identified by pre-service staff are collected and has a 50% success rate in collecting all identified patient share of cost for assigned patients.

4. Follows hospital protocol for handling of uninsured patients including referral to eligibility vendor if appropriate.

5. Maintains working knowledge of downtime procedures. Performs downtime procedures with little or no assistance.

6. Ensures patients, including patients admitted into beds, have signed all necessary paperwork, and insurance information has been obtained.

7. Ensures all documentation is noted in ADT system.

8. Demonstrates working knowledge of all hospital IT systems necessary to accomplish daily tasks.

9. Assess and trouble shoots problems with patients, referring physicians and their staff. Independently makes decisions that fundamentally adhere to hospital and / or department protocols.

10. Must be able to demonstrate a high level of computer skills including hospital intranet site as well as the internet as appropriate

11. Independently demonstrates ability to provide and facilitate excellent customer service in all situations.

12. Acts as a mentor for new employees as they develop their skills & competencies related to daily job functions.

13. Actively participates with all performance improvement initiatives - both departmental and organizationally, as requested.

14. Demonstrates openness to new procedures and provides constructive recommendations to Supervisor(s).

15. Meets annual requirements for position including but not limited to : Competencies; Swank; Maintaining Competency Binder; Employee Health requirements.

16. Maintains working knowledge of dealing with all hospital emergency response CODES.

17. Attends no less than 75% of all department and / or organizational meetings.

UNIT SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

For Employees primarily assigned to Minden Emergent Care :

  • CPR card is required

2. Assists PBX in answering phone calls after hours and during emergency response CODES.

3. Assists in the ordering of necessary departmental supplies.

4. Assists in the completion of patient medical records and charts as needed.

5. Inquires and arranges for non-medical services such as spiritual requests.

6. Ability to handle equipment malfunctions, applying troubleshooting techniques.

7. Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

8. Required to analyze and problem solve in emergent situations.

9. Required to regularly interact with internal and external customers.

10. Required to handle routine workflow with a minimum of supervision.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The specifications listed below are representative of the education and experience as well as knowledge, skill and ability required.

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of direct customer service experience required.
  • Medical terminology and previous experience in the medical field preferred. Formal training in related areas preferred.
  • Must possess strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
