Job Summary
The Plant Manager will supervise assigned refined fuel and lubricant plant operations to ensure daily deliveries are completed as expected and our customers are serviced with the highest standards while ensuring the safety of our employees and equipment. The Plant Manager will direct and manage the overall bulk plant operations with responsibility for hiring, scheduling, sales, quality, inventory, maintenance, and safety.
The Plant Manager collects and processes information on plant performance, diagnoses problems, and designs corrective procedures.
Tasks
Human Resources
- Manage, coach and develop plant employees to ensure the necessary capabilities and culture are in place to maintain an efficient operation.
- Provide guidance and direction regarding policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and monitor daily personnel activities including proper scheduling of employees to ensure a productive workflow.
- Partner with Human Resources for employee-related issues including investigations, disciplinary actions, hiring, terminations and any employee changes.
- Oversee proper employee training, evaluate performance, and resolve personnel grievances. Ensure employees comply with all DOT and state certifications.
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Implement and support safety and environmental initiatives and practices to either meet or exceed company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements as directed by Environmental Health and Safety Manager.
- Ensure that all safety and environmental policies and procedures are followed by plant employees.
- Conduct the weekly tailgate safety meetings and train plant employees in the safe handling and dispensing of petroleum products.
- Actively engage with employees to reinforce safe behaviors.
- Ensure that the plant and all employees are compliant with all State, Federal, Company and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Ensure spill containment measures are in place and meet company standards.
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service in all customer interactions.
- Anticipate and respond to customer needs; seek opportunities to increase profitable sales and ensure an efficient delivery.
- Follow-up with customers in a timely manner to resolve issues/complaints.
- Handle customer complaints courteously and efficiently according to company policy.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with outside suppliers to maintain appropriate inventory levels at the plant.
- Maintain effective business relations with state and local agencies.
- Plant Operations
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the plant, overseeing profitability, sales growth, on-time delivery, accounts receivables, safety, optimal inventory levels, and expense control.
- In conjunction with Inventory Manager, maintain accurate inventory control, ensuring products are on hand and available; when out of stock, search for, purchase and deliver product to customers.
- Comply with company policies and implement best practices.
- Oversee daily fuel inventory reporting and reconcile the daily and monthly accounting.
- Reports plant metrics and progress according to daily/weekly/monthly established schedule.
- Review operations and confer with plant employees to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Ensure all control systems and processes are implemented and followed.
- Manage regulatory compliance efforts at the assigned plant including driver vehicle inspection reporting required by the DOT.
Maintenance
- Collaborates with the Maintenance department to ensure that the condition of all equipment and facilities are maintained in good working order.
- Arrange for necessary repairs or replacement of equipment.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Shop to ensure that all plant vehicles are properly maintained and repaired.
- Oversee the maintenance of the plant grounds.
Credit & Expedintures
- Oversee and enforce customer credit policies and decisions as defined by the Credit Manager.
- Contact customers with past due accounts to resolve the issue, oversee collection account balances, and ensure that no sales are made to customers who are in arrears.
- Review and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, or human resources, ensuring that materials, labor, or equipment are used efficiently to meet plant operation targets.
- Review any unauthorized expenditures with the Bulk Plant Operations Manager.
Sales
- In conjunction with Sales personnel, develop sales objectives that maximize operational effectiveness.
- Review schedules or orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering time constraints.
- Work with Sales to ensure the timely installation of all customer storage tanks.

Educations, Experience, and Skill Level
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus, three (3) years of related management experience in the petroleum industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of bulk plant operations and policies.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language to communicate with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Ability to motivate those supervised, evaluate their performance and assist in their personal and professional development.
- Valid commercial driver’s license, Class-A preferred
- Tanker and HAZMAT Endorsements
- Eligible to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®)
- Must be able to safely operate an automatic and manual transmission refined fuel tanker truck
