The Customs Compliance and Logistics Coordinator for the Purchasing and Department serves as the primary point of contact for all customs activities.
What you’ll do as a Customs Compliance and Logistics Coordinator:
- Provides oversight of all business processes as it relates to inbound/outbound freight and domestic transportation requirements to meet customer requirements. Provides direct oversight to all import/export activities, including interfacing with government agencies as required to resolve customs issues
- Works cross functionally with Stakeholders as the Logistics Business Partner to the Site to ensure the implementation of best practices that support operational excellence
- Makes recommendations senior management regarding compliance related activities to ensure the Site is current on legal and best industry practices
- Leads and supports change management, both tactically and strategically, as the business changes to meet customer need
- Oversees/produces estimated shipping charges for both domestic and foreign shipments as required and determine best method of transport
- Ensures import/export documentation is accurate for all required data collection, including all Customs data as required
- Manages in excess of $1m in inbound Freight Logistics contracts for domestic and international shipments with multiple freight forwarders and truckers.
- Manages in excess of $100k in customs clearance fees
- Timely reviews and approves all invoices received from freight forwarders, domestic trucking services and customs clearance agents, resolving all resolves all issues timely with respect to discrepancy, inventory or billing
- Manages and optimizes cargo loading at originating port, ensuring timely delivery of required inventory to meet customer demand
- Establishes professional, long term relationships with freight forwarders and carriers to ensure strong communication between all parties
- Remains current on technical requirements of the role, serving as the Site subject matter expert for internal and external US Customs Compliance related questions and issues.
- Negotiates and plans for $700K in goods transport with freight company for domestic shipments for delivery to Site
- Remains current in understanding of any exported and imported controlled goods and sanctioned countries
- Accepts responsibility as the signer for legal Certificate of Origin related documents
- Ensures all records are properly retained, following internal record keeping procedures for all documentation, including US Customs Entries
- Participates in and provide support to internal and external audits
- Performs all other duties as assigned
We’re looking for a Customs Compliance and Logistics Coordinator with:
- 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment; consumer products, with primary focus in import/export, customs and transport applications.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) training
- Customs compliance training
- Customs Broker License or CCS (Certified Customs specialist) Certificate
- Current knowledge of NAFTA, CAFTA and any other treaties, regulations and procedures that affect the importing and exporting of materials.
- An up to date understanding of U.S. Customs Harmonized tariff Schedule (HTS) numbers for products.
- Understanding of Automated Export System (AES) Reporting
- Familiar with Automated Commercial Environmental Portal (ACE)
- Knowledge of Incoterms and correct usage
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish project driven goals
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms. Excellent technical writing and system documentation skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to communicate & liaise broadly across functions & the global organization10

Physical requirements and working conditions:
Our manufacturing Plant is comprised of enclosed office and manufacturing space. This position requires:
- Move throughout entire facility to attend to various issues, service customers and attend meetings
- Work effectively in teams with strong communication skills and ability to facilitate
- Perform sedentary work on various computer systems.
- Required to be on-site 5 days per week
- Role will operate during standard business hours but depending on the location of the customer base and during peak periods, some flexibility may be required to handle customer inquiries outside of regular business hours
- Domestic travel up to 10%.
- Customs Compliance and Logistics Coordinator position is located on-site in our East Longmeadow facility.
