What are the responsibilities and job description for the MLS - Product Quality Control position at Carter Bloodcare?
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) reports to the Manager or Assistant Manager of Product Quality Control. This position participates in all activities in the Product Quality Control department to include but is not limited to:
- Supports Carter BloodCare’s (CBC) vision, mission and core values
- Maintains compliance with CBC attendance policies and department schedules, as outlined in the CBC Employee Handbook
- Performs testing and services associated with assigned departmental duties. These duties are in the scope of complexity according to accrediting agencies
- Participates in competency, proficiency, and educational opportunities
- Participates in educational instruction of students/employees and competency evaluations of employees
By accomplishing these duties, the MLS ensures that daily operations in the Product Quality Control laboratories meet and follow all established guidelines, provide excellence in service, and meet the needs of all customers.
Regular full-time attendance is required during normal working hours
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree, or related field
- MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification, required
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 2 years of laboratory services, required
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Strong working knowledge of blood bank policies and procedures, required
- Detailed problem-solving skills; Ability to provide instruction to customers based on the problems presented and provide options for corrective action and proper documentation of the problem and resolution
- Ability to concentrate, understand complex problems, and collaborate and explore alternative solutions; Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology
- Ability to understand, remember, communicate, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information; Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines
- Extensive mathematical ability is required, including familiarity with laboratory mathematics and computers; Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret numerical data for reporting purposes
- Effective organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize workload, pay attention to detail, and show consistent follow-through with a commitment to excellence
- Ability to multitask effectively, establish appropriate priorities, recognize and do what needs to be done without direction, ensure that work is completed efficiently, and supports teamwork and cooperation with co-workers and peers
- Ability to communicate with individuals utilizing telephones, computers, or other electronic devices; Ability to hear and speak effectively on the phone and to use a computer or other electronic device, required
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with others (i.e., internal & external clients, co-workers) in a clear, understandable, and professional manner (written & oral) at all times and displays comprehensive reading skills
- Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, communicate orally with others accurately
- Ability to make decisions that have a significant impact on the department’s credibility, operations, and services
- Strong customer service skills and use appropriate interpersonal styles to establish effective relationships with customers (internal & external) and interact with others in a way that promotes openness and trust and gives them confidence in one’s intentions
