- DEFINITION OF POSITION
- The Patient Support Partner (PSP) is responsible for administering direct patient care in a courteous, caring manner, and performing other duties deemed necessary to ensure optimal patient care, under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse. The Patient Support Partner interacts with unit staff members, patients, patient's family members, and other departments to ensure the comfort and safety for all patients. The PSP practices skills approved by Carteret Health Care nursing administration via competency checklist as delegated by the licensed nurse on a client-by-client basis. The following criteria must be met before delegation of any task:
- Task is performed frequently in the routine care of a client or group of clients
- Task is performed according to an established sequence of steps
- Task may be performed with a predictable outcome
- Task does not involve on-going assessment, interpretation or decision-making that cannot be logically separated from the task itself.
- The PSP must perform all basic patient care needs including, but not limited to, bathing, feeding, vitals, activities of daily living, and transportation of patients. Additional unit based duties such as, but not limited to, point of care testing, phlebotomy, and unit coordinator duties are expected to be carried out as needed by the PSP.
- PSP employees must be cross trained to work in one or more area outside home base.
- Achieving Clinical Excellence (ACE) shall be obtained through additional engagement opportunities other than listed in PSP expectations
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional
- High school education or equivalent.
- Maintains listing with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation, Healthcare Personnel Registry as a Nurse Aide I.
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
- Cross Trained area outside home unit within six months of employment
