JOB RELATIONSHIPS |
- Supervises RNs, LPNs, NAs, UCs and other Patient Care Services Employees; responsible to Clinical Director and/or designee.
DEFINITION OF POSITION |
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the nursing care of assigned patients.
QUALIFICATIONS |
- Professional
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.

- Current ACLS certification or completion of ACLS within 6 months of employment.
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
- Other educational certifications as required for each department to which the RN is competency validated to provide patient care, should be current or obtained within the specified time frame.
- Personal
- Maintains good physical and emotional well-being.
- Works effectively with others, possessing tact, discretion and diplomacy.
- Evidence of knowledge and ability to use proper channels of communication
- Possesses a sense of responsibility, initiative and honesty.
- Physical
- Stamina -- Capable of standing/walking for long periods of time (2-4 hours).
- Strength -- Minimally capable of:
- Free lifting 50 pounds.
- Pushing stretchers/beds under loads of 200-500 pounds, with assistance.
- Lifting patients up to 250 pounds with staff/mechanical assistance.
- Reflexes/Agility -- Minimally capable of:
- Frequent stooping, kneeling, reaching, bending, during 8-12 hour shift.
- Responding to sudden, unexpected movements of patients.
- Responding quickly and effectively to emergencies; i.e., chemical spills (medications, IV fluids), infectious exposures, patient contact, needles/syringes, waste handling (bodily fluids), medical equipment.
- Hearing and Visual Acuity
- Capable of hearing and responding to patients/staff/others who cannot be visualized.
- Visual acuity/color perception that permits patient assessment, monitoring devices/readouts.
- Dexterity -- Handwriting skills to facilitate documentation for patient care, handling of equipment, and laboratory specimens.
- CPR -- Has the ability to combine the necessary physical requirements to perform CPR as appropriate.
